120i service indicators help!! :(

Hey guys, I just joined this website today.. Hope you guys can help me out..

These symbols appeared today after I start the car, i am not sure what is it really.. the hand break light is still on even when i was driving and hand break is released, and also normally a car symbol appeared without the 'service' word on top of it.. hope you guys can help me..

It means your car is due for service. Your brakes are toast/worn out.

Don't you have an owners manual? The book explains all these symbols. I know some are not really apparent what they mean.

Thanks Dackelone . I do have a manual however the service symbol is displayed in red in my car(2nd picture); the manual explains that such an indicator means that there is an electrical fault or ignition malfunction - this has confused me..

Yellow icons are WARNINGS

RED icons are NOTICE! You must take action.


For instance... a yellow oil symbol means your low on engine oil - its a warning. A RED oil symbol means NO OIL PRESSURE. Do not drive/run the engine.

Yeh, take it in STRAIGHT AWAY. That symbol means there's a malfunction with your braking system.

You guys reckon its fine to bring it to the specialist instead of dealer?
Because bmw dealer is a ripped off in aussie..
