Rear Seat Cup Holder
I added the front cup holder so I have adequate front cup holders but had nothing in the back. I purchased a fischer from ultimate cup holders but when I went to put it in, the angle of the back of the console bothered me and I was looking at adding some wooden wedges to mount it but I didn't like the idea of drilling holes and I didn't think it would stay put without them.
Then I got to messing around and come up with this. It is walnut (same as my trim) and adds two cup holders. There is no spring loading to keep a drink completely steady but I think it will be useful. It is held in place by a tight fit of the piece I call the foot at the bottom which goes under where the rear seat mounts. So the lip catches on the seat. It will wiggle if you push on it but it is pretty stable. I don't think a drink will move it much if at all. No screws or other car modifications, just push it in or pull it out. What do you think?

Nice just curious I dont have a middle seat in my 135i just some plastic holder of some sort. Now is it verts or 128i that have the middle seats? Also where did you find this? I hate having big drinks in the way of my shifter.

I am not sure what you are referring to as a "middle seat". I have two seat belts in the back seat of my convertible. The back seat is narrower than the coupe because of the top mechanism. The space between the front edge of the back seat and the console is about 2 inches. Nobody could fit their legs into that space. This cup holder fits into that ~2 inch space.
I didn't buy this, I built it out of scraps. I built a prototype first of softwood scraps and then I used the last few scraps of walnut I had laying around to make the final cup holder. I have a bunch of cherry but I thought it was better to use walnut since that is what my interior trim is. If anybody is interested, I can post a page showing the size of the pieces and outline of the parts. It is not a hard woodworking project but it helps to have a drill press, miter saw, table saw, and sanding equipment. Finish needs to be an outdoor poly so the walnut will not fade from sunlight. I used Minwax's outdoor finish which I thinned about 1/3 so I could wipe it on. I put on 7 coats. My son thought I should paint it to match the seats and console. That would be another option and would make the wood choice whatever you have or want to buy. Jim

My 09 135i has that black plastic rear compartment separating both rear seat cushions also. I don't care though. I don't give rides, and if your sitting back there, you're screwed either way, lol.

I do not use my back seat a lot but I want people to be comfortable when they are back there. I think the seating is more comfortable than it looks. I've never ridden back there but I have sat there a few times. Normally my windscreen is blocking access.

In the front I added the one on the passengers side of the console that you get when you order the idrive. I got the parts from Tischer and followed the DIY instructions for console removal and drink holder installation.
This one in the back is my "invention". Woodworking is my main hobby so I have a fairly well equipped shop and lots of "scraps" that I keep because they are occasionally handy. These pictures of the cup holder for the rear out of the vehicle may help it make more sense. Jim
