I'm not really able to answer all of the questions but...
399.99 I think is pretty good price if it is a full kit meaning full bumper full hood full fenders and side mirrors. I was quoted 500 for fully kit 3M but... didn't think it was worth the 500 but.....now i do and here is why: I had my 1er for 3 weeks now.... and I have just below 1900KMs and that was from 1 hours and 40minutes of highway driving and from city driving, and guess what! I have a rock chip on my bumper. I highly recommend it....... when you do get it... get it from a place that will offer lfie time warranty on the colour fading. Good Luck! |

Wow, those all sound like really nice prices. I paid $900 for mine at BMW Gallery in Calgary. Shadow Tint was the same price also.

Price on 3m film means nothing unless two things are known:
1) that it's actual 3M brand (most films are terrible quality-- and they should either be much cheaper or not even considered at all) 2) that it's custom fit, and not a pre-cut kit (pre-cut kits look like crap and should be substantially cheaper-- personally I'd never allow a pre-cut kit to go on one of my own vehicles ever again)

All of the seams had dirt under them after a little while, too... looked terrible. I'd rather have some rock chips then look at an install job like that again, haha. Actually I'll try to find some pictures of my S2000 when I get home, I'm sure I have some personal examples of just how bad clear bra's can look.

there's nothing wrong with pre-cut if you have a good installer

Congrats on your purchase!
Re: the 3M protection, I would say it is worth it, just don't get it through the dealer! Your price seems ok but it depends on exactly what you are getting done. When I got mine done I went straight to the guy who does it for the dealer for about 50% less. I paid about $825 for the following: hood (first 18"), front bumper, front fenders (the first part, 18"?, to match the same depth of the hood), side mirrors, front door handles (underneath), rockers and the top part of the rear bumper (at the entrance to the trunk..protects bumper from the loading of hockey bags and luggage). So far it has protected me very well from rocks, etc although chips are inevitable unless you 3M the whole car! I agree with koala. You need to make sure of the brand (3M or xpel is also good) and that it is custom fit. You don't want a guy with an OLFA knife hacking things up! My kit was computer generated/cut to meet the design of my car. Try this site as well: www.xpel.com AZC

Agreed. I have the 3M stoneguard for my headlights (stupid things are still glass covered). I've had them for 5 years and still no discolouration.

Some cars just don't need it, too. My CX-7 barely has any rock chips thus-far (its about 18 months old). On the flip side I'm disappointed we didn't do it for my girlfriends Yaris-- it's 6 months old and looks pretty bad already

regardless brand or adhesive, it will differ in color compare to unprotected paint. There are maintenance kits to keep it newer longer but it's inevitable. You can't expect a piece of plastic being blasted with dirt and rock to retain the same shine as the body after many years.
I have yet to see any installation that stay invisible after 2-3 years. If don't plan to keep it, don't bother. If you DO plan to keep it, switch it out every 3-4 years. |
