Need some help

Hey guys. can anyone help me do this here is SoCal? Or, know a local shop that can do this for me on the cheap? I'm in Orange County. Mission Viejo to be precise. Got an E90 M3. Thanks!

Burger Motorsports - who makes the delete valve - is in Simi Valley.
If 2 hours is too far to go, they should be able to refer you to a nearby shop that handles their stuff.

Thanks a lot. BTW, after I posted this I read in multiple places that the M3 actually does NOT have the CDV.

You know, I think you're right!
I've never had an M3, and this is the 1 Forum, so I hadn't really thought about that. Anyway, it's easy to check - if you don't mind getting underneath the transmission.

Just performed this. Wow!!!
Should have came from the factory without the CDV. It feels like a race car now and I am really enjoying every time I shift.

Glad I do so much reading in this forum now that I have a 135i and I found this thread. SSK and Clutch Stop were already planned but the CDV delete is now happening this weekend along with a few other things! Thanks for all the great information everyone!

I'm not a fan of a clutch stop... but a CDV-delete and a SSK is a MUST!! It totally changes the way the 135i feels. Our cars should have come from the factory this way. I think BMW realizes this because the M2 does not have a CDV!

Dack

PS: Then all you need a PE(Performance Exhaust)!

Good thing is, if I do the clutch stop and don't like it, super easy to switch it back Thanks for all your input Dack!

Hello everyone, just a quick question.

I did this today (complete delete - looks like pic 5) and what i did was reuse the clip from my CDV but i noticed that with little (but not minimal) effort, I was able to separate the two. I was wondering if this is normal. Thanks in advance

Apologies for the inactive thread bump, but I just wanted to vent: I swear I'm the worst mechanic ever.

Good news: I removed my CDV and have the rubber line plugged back into the hard line.

BAD news: I accidently popped the retention clip completely off, and can't get it back in place, so the connection is not secure. My car has the clip inserted from above, so it's a delicate BLIND operation to fit it back in place, and it has outwitted me so far. I'm a bad combination of shaky & clumsy and I fear this is going to prove impossible for me.

It took me awhile to figure out how to pop that clip up to begin with, but eventually I did and thought all was well. I removed the rubber hose from the CDV, but then for the life of me could not get the CDV to come out of the hard line side. So I thought maybe I hadn't pushed the clip up far enough (even though it looked like it was fully up). I pushed it up some more and it came flying out.

Note: the similar clip that is on the CDV itself has little barbs at the ends of the legs to prevent this kind of thing, but this clip on the hard line does not.

So just to confirm: I'm totally screwed until I can get this clip back in place, right?

I wouldn't go anywhere without the clip in place. I think as soon as you touch the pedal and put pressure on the system the lines will pop apart. Thoughts:

1) If you totally removed the CDV, then you removed a part, and are down 1 clip that has to be put back into place. So - is this "extra"? Just to be clear.

2) The way I've made these kinds of clips work in the past is to get it positioned more or less in place, but not all the way in. So that when the 2 lines come together, I don't have to then totally install the clip just nudge it that last tiny bit until it goes in place. Hope that makes sense...

Agreed that the lines will pop apart; it already feels loose without any pressure. I'm definitely not driving on it like this. I know it need to be there; mostly just venting.

This one is not the extra one, it is the required one, for the hard line side connector. The 'extra' one is the one on the (now removed) CDV.

TL-DR Car had two clips, needs one, now has zero.

Well, you know what you need to do Not fun sometimes. Did my explanation of getting it partly in place while it's easy to get to, then popping it in the final amount later (when it's hooked up and hard to get to), make sense?

Success! Your technique worked. I just couldn't get the right angle on the clip with the rubber hose plugged in, so I disconnected it (with the hose clamped) and that allowed me to rotate the hard line about 90 degrees, giving me the angle I needed to get the clip started. Then I plugged them back together and pushed the clip all the way in. Done!

Well, except for the bleeding. After reading this entire thread I decided to order the Motive kit and use that; it should arrive tomorrow. Time for a cerveza.

Be sure you screw the lid onto the reservoir tightly and even then wrap a rag around the cap and put a rag underneath the reservoir. Pressurize the bleeder and don’t walk away until you’re sure not much (notice that I didn’t say “no”) fluid is leaking out.
