Secret to Shifting Fast?
Is there a secret to shifting fast or powershifting in our cars? This isn't my first manual BMW i've owned but its just so hard to get a good 1-2 shit. If I try to go to fast it simply won't go into second. On my old 540 I could powershift 1-2 and it would easily chirp second but i've never been able to do that in my 135i.

There really isn't any secret. Our manual transmissions are a bit knotchy throughout the gears ESP. 1st-2nd. One thing I may recommend to improve smoothness is redline ATF. The difference will be minor but a cleaner transitions changing those gears.

Imo, it's smoother shifting with the A/C off...I know that's not super helpful.

Hey Spoolin Montego, I have the CDV delete and a UUC SSK, shifting is improved greatly. AFtermarket clutch stop might help as well.

+1 on the clutch stop. Did that two weeks in. Had almost forgotten about it. Worlds of difference.

SSK, clutch stop and CDV delete. i did the CDV delete and clutch stop at the same time, and have substantially better driving control in all situations(including 1-2 fast changes) and then i added the SSK a week ago, and its even better now. The gears got a tad notchier with the SSK, but i need a fluid change at 45k miles, and the notchiness went away mostly as i drove it over the week.

I totally know what you other fellas are feeling in regards to keeping it "smooth" w/ the clutch on hot summer days. I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one feeling this. In fact, I was thinking of starting a thread in hopes to ask for other 1addict's impression of our cars and how it "performs" on hot summer days.
Believe it or not, an upgraded FMIC helped in that matter. After my install of AMS FMIC , I am CONFIDENT to say that my car does NOT bog down as much as ti when a/c was on while NOT having an upgraded FMIC. |

You know, I find my car to be extremely notchy and difficult to shift smoothly in cold weather, but it gets much better when it's hotter outside.
Do any of you find that the gearbox literally won't go into first at times? I sometimes try to put it into first, it doesn't go, return to neutral, try again, doesn't go, and the only way to get it in gear is to let up on the clutch and reengage the clutch. |

If your synchros get worn, you will know it, I hope this is not your problem with the car.
I have been lookin for a manual E92 M3 to park in the garage next to the One, and the ones I have driven all have a jacked second gear. Good video and yes there are others that explaine how synchros work. Once you watch a video you may start shifting a bit slower, except on race day! Mmmmm, Race Day! Pre-load the shifter. Basically right before you have to shift, very slightly begin to pull/push it out of gear, so as soon as you go for the clutch, the shifter will slip right out of gear, and you can have it into the next one pretty much as soon as the clutch is fully depressed. Then just pop the clutch and continue mashing the go-pedal. Time all of this just right, and it's actually quite easy on the drivetrain, or about as easy as banging gears can be to a transmission, in any case.
