Street tire setup
hello all, im currently interested in some new tire/ wheel combo that can hold my power. As of now with stock turbos, im spinning first, second, and third gear. I just put my deposit for the single turbo in, and i want to get new tires that can at least hold 3rd gear and some of second. Ive got coilovers so raining the car isnt a problem if need be. what kind of setup would be decent for my future needs? im thinking of a 17 inch rim with so me semi slicks...

I'm going out on a limb here and answer this. Not sure what the 135s run in regard to rear tire sizes, but if you are searching for grip, I'd suggest looking over at last years results for the SCCA autox/solo events and look at the top finishers. You'll probably find some Falkens, BF Goodrich and bridgestones rated at the top. Those are usually 200 tread wear tires with tons of grip.

RE-71R are the king of grip right now still in autocross street class. I think you can fit at absolute most a 285 on a 1 series with rolling and the right wheel offset.

Do you want cornering or just straight-line grip? They're very different and I'm going to assume for the moment that you want straight line since you're going big single, which is useless for auto-x etc. MT ET Street or Street R's are the way to go IMO.

If you want more straight line grip with 450-500hp+ in a 1er (short wheelbase, not all that heavy) you're going to start sacrificing cornering grip.
Again really important to know what you're doing with the car. MT's will get you down a highway or straight extremely well but cornering is a no-go. If you want an all-rounder you're going to end up with great cornering grip but still lacking in power delivery, especially with the torque of these engines and since you're not widebody your tire size selection is very limited. The Hankook Z214's or whatever the updated version is might be a good middle for you, they're very sticky, available in lots of 1er-friendly sizes and legal for autox.

They come in 17s. Do you have a specific size requirement other than 17" rim? Width/profile?

I take it you're looking for maximum acceleration, and don't much care to shred a road course, etc. I'd start off with saying you'd be wanting a staggered setup; less rolling resistance up front, more traction in back for launching and pulling. Rumor has it that you can run 10-inch wide wheels in the back, but that's coming from 3 minutes of looking...

To fit the widest tire you'll want something with an offset of 50 or higher. Apex uses an offset of 58 on their 18x9.5 wheels for the 1 series, and I've heard of people running 285s in the rear with that setup

What tires come from the factory on the Z06 or RS4? They should hold your power, and take a turn if the DSC isn't shut down completely. Then you are on your own.

They're probably Michelins... From there, I'd say either PS Cup 2's or PSS's. It's just such a common tire to such applications now...
