'12 128i Muffler delete/tailpipe options

My e82/n51 is a bit too quiet for my liking. I've heard many people do the muffler/backbox delete, but they never mention how they made or where they obtained the replacement tail pipe.

my goal is to keep the muffler/TP but weld in a v-band so that the muffler can be reinstalled if needed.

But I just want to replace from just aft of the rear diff to the tailpipe opening.

Is there some place that sells this or should I just suck it up and try the local exhaust place?

Does anyone know the OD/ID of the ehaust just prior to the muffler?

The 128 muffler is shorter than the 135i.

If you really want, look up the performance exhaust mod and you can mod your existing muffler to sound more like the PE. If you have an angle grinder and know how to weld it's fairly simple.

But otherwise I think you can get an axle back exhaust and essentially do a muffler delete.

128i piping is 2.5" IIRC. If you don't have the M-sport bumper/diffuser, you'll need tips with outlets below 3" if you're sticking with stock-like dual tips. Initially bought some Corsa tips that had 3.5" outlets and they were too big for the bummer cutout. Inlet size was also 2.75", so the shop had to expand the outlet of the new pipe. Ended up going with these: https://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-Dual-St...72.m2749.l2649

Muffler shop cut the muffler, bent a new pipe, and attached the tips. $40 OTD. $20 when I went back to have the new tips installed. This was at a shop in BFE run by good ol' southern boys though.

If you want to keep the stock muffler, you could just clamp the new pipe like the PE or weld a flange after the cut. If you match the size of the flange on the 135i exhaust so you can bolt on axle backs from that car.

You might also consider an electric cutout just before the muffler.

I was looking at muffler delete. My exhaust guy said try removing the secondary cats first which is what we did. Just welded in a couple of straight stainless pipes. If you're looking for something very subtle this could do it. Combined with disconnecting the muffler vacuum line (Golf T mod) this gives a nice low bass note along with removing a pretty serious exhaust restriction. I cleaned up the intake track at the same time, with the Silicone intake boot and removing the charcoal filter. Again, if you want loud, this is not it but it's a subtle, classy straight 6 sound.
