The American diffs for 335 and 135i are all nut type, so they have never even seen the flange type before, also there is a change over date of 07/07 for the big housing change to a little housing.......also on the 335i they change from bolted to welded crownwheel as well.......it goes on and on

anyone know how much the hoodlining would cost here?

This from Real OEM..... within the E82 / 135i parts, it's under Main Group: Vehicle Trim - Sub Group: Insulation -- and it's there as part of "Sound Insulating Front"

Incidently, being in the "Sub Group: Insulations", means it's NOT in the "Sub Group": "Various Body Parts", or "Accesories and retrofittings". To me, this implies it's not an optional, it's supposed to be there.

11 SOUND INSULATING ENGINE HOOD 151489141036
12 EXPANDING RIVET D=7,5 551481915964 $0.39

Sorry formatting is so bad

Presumably this means you could order it, but I'd be more inclined to show this to a dealer and tell them I want the "whole" car I paid for.

Bloody hell, the mechanical parts bin saga deapens ???

I just hope in all of this parts changing, the quality is still there and or improved and not a cost cutting measure with inferior hardware, that's 'just up to the job' on the part of BMW...

We are lucky to have someone like you Andrew interested and looking into all of this side of things, lots will benifit from it - thanks for your efforts

Thanks, i left a few important words out.

Ok a nut type flange looks like this

The flange type looks like this on Aussie Manual cars post 03/08

I hope this helps

I'm trying to work out all the differences, seems there are quite a few, i spoke with a USA vendor today about his experiences as well.

The flanges don't change over as the inner spline is different sizes so as the moment i have no way to provide a 3.46 ratio with the flange style, but i'm working on it.

Options is to build a Quaife LSD with 3.46 with overseas housing but i have to supply a tail shaft as well. Costs start to rise though.

More soon

Did the (missing) hood lining issue ever get resolved?

I'm sans-lining myself.

Don't think it ever got resolved. Seems totally random.

BTW, I've got one.

It's a security feature. If you want to leave your car with valet parking (OMG) and want to leave your gear in the boot you might want to stop the parking monkeys getting in there.

1) Throw the override switch in the glovebox and then lock the glovebox. This will stop them using the key fob or the release switch near the drivers door;

2) Take the metal key out of the centre of the fob with you. This stops them manually unlocking the glovebox or the boot.

If you could fold the seats from within the cabin then all of this would be useless. By putting the release inside the boot itself, you have some degree of security for what's in the boot.

All in all, a very Germanic way of going about it......

Catch is, I have the ski-bag hole which is opened from inside the car. Anything small within arm's reach is fair game...

Actually used the ski-bag hole a few times in the past few days to carry flag banners. Very useful!

I priced the liner a while ago but didn't get it.

I think it was around $80-aud including the 3 or 4 clips required.

I've asked BBMW to get back to me as to whether or not it should be fitted, and if it should be when can I bring it in to get done.

I heard back from the local dealer-

"I have spoken to service and they have advised me that there is no benefit in Australia to have it fitted - its more for colder climates."

Apparently the floor models don't have it fitted either.

That doesn't explain why some of us got the liner and some didn't.:iono:

Very interesting thread.

My 135i Coupe (Black with Red Interior) is a 6 speed 02/08 Build (no under hood insulation).

So I guess this means that I have the DME80 and the spline type rear differential ?
