Though I don't know how they'd feel if I rolled in with a few CEL's though... meh... still gotta figure out our SES catless DP problem, cause I don't think they'd like that one either.

Good luck on the install.
I 100% Agree.

There's no fix for it. The cars being built right now are just as likely to fail as the '08s.

I replaced the pump myself. Have yet to road test the car. Will post a DIY in a couple days.

Sweet. That DIY should come in handy for a lot of people when CP-E comes out with their improved fuel pump.

Mine was just replaced on my totally stock car after 1yr, 16,000 kms. No outright failure, just a long crank here and there. Mentioned it to my dealer and they replaced it after a call to BMW about the issue.

No, there is only one stealership in Tucson. PHX dealers are 100 miles away.

Can't help you with BMW of Tucson, those guys suck. But once your warranty is up talk to the guys at Dearing's Automotive on Ft. Lowell, great service and they do tech inspections for Firebird, Kit's Peak, etc.

I'd really like to see BMW prove that an exhaust or intercooler could some how cause a fuel pump to fail. Sure they can say it makes the engine work harder, but the problem they have is so many STOCK cars that have fuel pumps go bad just as quickly, sometimes even quicker.

IMO you got shafted for having to buy a broken part that BMW knows VERY well will fail regardless of those mods you have. What happens if the fuel pump you paid out of pocket for breaks? Will you just buy another one?

No, next time I will warranty the car. The problem was this: the fuel pump was failing fast, I did not want to drive the car on the street. My base hobby shop is 20 miles away where I have access to a lift for the downpipe re-install. I could either do the downpipes in my garage or the HPFP. The fuel pump is easier so I this time I paid out of pocket.

The first indication of another HPFP....aka Long crank, car is going to the dealership in stock trim and I will demand a new pump... I'm sure they'll tell me to get lost, but at least I'll try....

I'll answer that...there are a few over at the Canadian forum in E90post that are experiencing the issue. Some drove the car for over 40,000kms before they had the pump replaced. There are just fewer Canadian 135i's in general and even fewer on the forum to report the same number of incidents as we here from our neighbours to the south.

Almost seems like the newer pumps fail even sooner?

It seems that way, but I think maybe it's just because the new owners know it's so common, and are being more vocal about it.

John, what did the HPFP run you? Did you buy it right from your dealer?

$480.00 for the pump, plus $50.00 core deposit. The pump retails for around 610.00.

Bought from my crappy dealer. The pumps should be in stock because of the high failure rate.

Are you sure HPFP cost that much $610? I thought the HPFP only cost less than $400.

The retail price on it is $610, but it seems like some dealers are selling it at a discounted price.

This sucks, mine has the long cranks in the morning and now in the afternoon when I get out of work. The dealer doesn’t want to change it until it dies on me... Which dumb...They prefer for the car to leave me stranded for a known factory defect.

Could you put the DIY up, I think I will do this myself as well.

Thanks

JohnL135I: Please publish the HPFP DIY, just in case they deny my HPFP warranty claim that I have to do it myself. I think BMW at Gwinnett is selling the HPFP for less than $400 last time I checked. Thanks.
