Heavy braking & back seats

Ok so I was driving around Yarra Valley today, and for the second time since ownership of the car, when under heavy braking the back seats folded down under the g-force strain. Has anyone else experienced this? Should I be concerned and take it into BMW?

Could something in my boot have dislodged the latch?

Cheers!

It sounds like when you flipped the seats back up, that you didn't lock them in place. Or else the latches aren't working.

+1

I've had that happen before but only because the previous day I had folded the seats down to stow a cupboard in the boot.

Seems like I didn't fold the back seats up until the latches fully locked.

I've never actually flipped the back seats down at all. First time it happened I presumed it wasn't locked properly and relatched both sides, but it happened again.

Hmmm or the car detailers perhaps didn't lock it in last week, well I'll keep a watch out if it happens again...

I've done some track time and never had this problem. It's probably your latches.

I was in the Yarra Valley also... Although in my wife's VW 118 TSI... terrible weather for a drive though.

When the seats are latched they are locked very tight. I don't see how anything short of hiting a concrete pillbox at 60 Mph would release them.

Had it happen on a racetrack under very heavy braking with my 130 and also with my previous car (Subaru) once.

Even an accident shouldn't cause them to come undone (within reason...not expecting anything to survive a 150km/h crash), thats a huge engineering flaw if they do, think about what would happen if they came undone and there were people in the back seat.
Make sure they are latched in properly. If they still come out under braking i'd take it up with BMW
