I try to go up to Mt. Baldy once a week or so. I live close by. All kinds of turns and elevation changes. Some straight areas too where you can build up some speed. A lot of fun, but it can get downright scary at times and that makes it even more exciting!

Wheelbase 108 in
Length 181.6 in
Width 68.2 in
Height 51.2 in
Curb weight 2,445 lb

2016 GT350/GT350R
Wheelbase 107.1 in
Length 188.9-189.7 in
Width 75.9 in
Height 53.6-54.2 in
Curb weight 3,796-3,710 lb

So the wheelbase in the 2016 is down approx. 1" but length, width and height are up. Curb weight is up by over 1000 lbs.
Really interesting considering how big the current Mustangs look and feel, knowing the difference (in dimensions) is so small.
It would be interesting to run the comparison across the whole range of Mustang body styles. They definitely got smaller at one point, from the Fox body up through the early 2000's.
I think the current body style is the best since the classics, but they are a little porcine.

But...

Out of curiosity, what do you tell the dealers when you're not really in the market for a car? I too would like to test drive more cars simply to see what other options are out there, but I have such a guilty conscious when I know full well I won't be buying it anytime soon.

Straight up lie, or be upfront and hope the salesman understands where you're coming from?

I usually say the truth, which is that I'm not necessarily in the market, but I'm curious on X car's offerings. I've never had a dealer that didn't let me drive the car. I think it helps that I try to come across professional and genuinely curious (which I am anyway), and not as some punk who just wants to rag on someone else's car for a few minutes.

Also, if the car impresses me I have no problem sitting down and discussing pricing with them. The dealership where I tested the Mustang offered me $20k in trade-in for my 135i before I left, so you never know!

I just say I'm interested in the car and can I take it for a test drive. Haven't been turned down yet. On the drive I never beat on the car and try to treat it respectfully because it probably hasn't been broken in yet and this car is potentially somebody's baby. I just be honest and respectful - they are there to sell cars and a test drive is one of the first steps. At the end I say "thanks but no thanks" and shake hands and walk away.
