I think if it was impossible to get one at a dealership a premium would be understandable. Given however if you're happy to ring round you can pick up a new car from a dealer at list price, with immediate delivery, I don't see how a premium is justified?

Something is not quite right here. Buy a car then sell it for more? I'm a quiet kind of guy, don't want to upset anyone, but realy, if I thought that I had made a mistake I would not wish to capitalize?

Correct Gaz - the only time you will be VAT exempt is if the car is older then six months. In which case it would then be classed as Second hand. In order to have an age though it needs to be registered first...lol!

So if anyone buys in the Uk they would have to pay an extra 20% over the advertised price of £49k!! Alice must have paid well below £49k as I don't think Guernsey has VAT.

Following on from that, who is going to buy a car without an identity? The only way you can do that is from a dealer. Alice, are YOU a DEALER ?? Last edited by johnsfb; 05-28-2011 at 09:35 AM.. |

I don't presume the seller's intention is to attempt to turn a mistake into a profit, although it can't be ruled out? Oh well, it is a free market after all. |

Agree all seems strange I guess buyer beware?? Needs a lot more explanation and the price needs a serious drop unless Alice is paying the UK VAT?? Can you please give more details Alice??

In any event... She has already posted that she did pay the tax and insurance in advance.. Other than the pricing. which could simply be VAT.. this sounds like a 20 year old young lady with buyers remorse more than it does a person trying to make a quick buck. But trying to recover everything you've got invested in the car looks a little to far fetched would'nt you say . Anyways for Alice's sake I hope it will turn out all right for her. |

This is Alice's car complete with numberplates. How did she get number plates without registering the car?
I don't see how this is possible. Can anybody explain this? Last edited by johnsfb; 09-05-2011 at 11:08 AM.. |

which also explains why she has changed her mind. I know that I pretty much went ALL IN when I got my first E30 M3... I paid 20K for a car in great condition and I was only earning about 25K a year... I joked with all my friends that I was driving my house payment.. ($527) fortunately I shared a town house with a roommate and my share was only $275 a month.. which would have been about what most people with similar income would put towards their vehicle. |

I'm 19 and I sometimes feel "bad" thinking I own such a car as young as I am...
Driving my dad's cars, twice as powerful and twice as exepensive than the 1M is no problem because of there ar not mine, but in my own brand new 1M I must say that sometimes, something's wrong in my mind.......

LOL... We all feel BAD hearing about you too. Actually seriously jealous.... and concerned as well. So many young people don't fare well with powerful cars... (I see the results on a daily basis... well.. actually.. mostly Monday mornings after the weekend).. When I was in high school... the smartest kid in school had rich parents who bought him a 300ZX (young folk can insert 370Z) ... at 16... This kid was the nicest guy... Straight A student... Turned left in front of another car on the way to school in the first week and totalled it.
You might want to delete your post before people start flaming you about how can you afford such a car blah blah... LOL |

I can't see how anyone can buy the car as if it really hasn't been registered I can't see how a buyer will hand over the money without seeing the title document which if not registered can't exist?? Also a buyer will want HPI or a similar agency to check there is no finance etc outstanding and without the car having being registered will be a problem??
If to be purchased in the UK there is then the question of paying the VAT and explaining to Customs how you have managed to drive and buy a car that hadn't been registered in Guernsey. I can understand why Alice might not want it registered as a buyer might not want to be a second owner for such a new car?? Good luck with selling it I see one has already been sold on for over list on Pistonheads so the price might not be too far out if you are also paying the UK VAT and it isn't down to be buyer. It isn't unusual for cars in limited production that are popular to go for over list My main advice to Alice if it doesn't get a buyer is to clarify a number of the above points in your advert otherwise it raises more questions than answers. |
