I personally think that "beamer" is the best phonetically speaking (no matter what the so-called rules are). "Bimmer" to me sounds like "Bim-mer" so I think it's ridiculous.

Who made up these rules anyway? I'd love to see a reference somewhere.

got my first thumbs up yesterday. I's driving down Fair Oaks in South Pasadena. It's a guy in a I think a VW MK1 GTi.

This morning at work, a lady ask me if that's my 135i and she told me she didn't even know BMW makes a 1-series, and it's a very good aggressive car.

a week after i got the car my girlfriend and i went to vegas and she was turning heads up and down las vegas blvd...(the car not my girl :wink there was a younger valet driver that kept trying to convince me to valet it but self parking is right in front of palms place so i decided not to let my car become a horror story...

btw...the 7 hour drive to vegas was amazing in the 1er...i have never sat in a car for so long and been as comfortable as i was...

I was waiting in our church parking lot for my son to get back from a VBS trip when an older guy...about 70 walks over and just stares at my 1. After about 3 minutes he looks up and says...."Beautiful Automobile". Turns and walks off. I was proud

A guy on a Hayabusa was talking me about my car when we were sitting at a light, told me that if there weren't 3 other people in the car I could probably run him. I told him he was crazy. Anyways he really liked the car, along with the 5 other occurances where people asked me if the car has a V6 in it? When I told them is was a striaght 6 twin turbo they went nuts!

Almost. A BMW cycle is a "beemer", a "beamer" is someone who owns either or both.

Got a good one,
Went to 7-11 for a 6 six pack.
Parked next to a brand new 08 corvette.
The owner was outside his car.
When I pulled up and got out he exclaimed "Is that the new 1??" Niceeeee.
Went inside, when came back out he was like inspecting my 1
He started asking me about it, how I liked it. When I mentioned to him..."bro you got an awesome car, your vet is amazing!" He sorta stated explaining why he "had" to buy an american car and was a little disappointed he didnt buy a bmw.
He started talking about testing the "6", and "M3". I told him about my 3, and how awesome the 1 drives in comparision.
He looked shocked when I told him its has the same engine as the 3.
Then when I said I got the slow model, the 35 has the 300hp TT. He looked more shocked!!
Then he made my day...said after seeing the 1 in person he wished he hadnt bought a "chevy" so impulsively. Then he said... I want a 1!!

So far I've only seen 1 other 1-er driving on the road, ever... they are still very rare.

People will stare at my car when they drive by, and 2 weeks ago I was walking out of the grocery store and some other guy was 100ft ahead of me walking out to his car... he went out his way to walk a 360 around my car before he headed towards his.

That kind of shit happens almost every day... never happened when I had my vette.

Not sure exactly what was said, but tonight driving home on the freeway, a car behind me turned his brights on. Then he drove up along the right side of me and sort of sat in my blind spot for a few minutes. Then he dropped back behind with the brights again. Then he pulled up along the right again and slowly passed me. I was sort of freaked out by it, but my passenger said he was looking at the car. I guess he was trying to figure out what it was, maybe trying to read the badge. Or knew and wanted to get a better look.

Still, it's freaky at 10:30 at night to have another car do that.

In slow bumper-to-bumper traffic on I-95 this afternoon, a couple of guys in a debadged WRX slowed down to take a look, and asked if it was a turbo. I replied, "Twin turbo!", to which they said, "Twin! Nice! I like that s*&#!"

You can recognize the BMW enthusiast when they rubberneck as you pass.

At a recent autocross, the car drew much attention from the younger guys attending the event, apparently, the 1-Series demographic veers toward you young-pups. Who knew?

I personally not use the word at all because I find a most annoying "pimp my ride" connotation within it... I call my car by his pet name and sometimes I refer to it or the brand as just "BM".

But that's an aside...

BEFORE I WAS REAR-ENDED, I got all sorts of people almost falling out of their window to look, and random passers-by inspecting the car in and out when parked... in addition to the typical "Is that the new 1?" and the "I didn't know they made a 1 series!". My personal favourite, though, is letting people comment on the "new, entry-level BMW", and almost obligatorily inquire about the engine/price thereafter; it's always most amusing to see their individual reactions to my answer.

Now that it sports quite the injury, I, for the first time, feel quite uncomfortable when thoroughly inspected... like when that grey-haired man did it from a black convertible 330Ci today... because, not only does it remind me of the terrible thing that happened to my car, but it makes me think that they will assume that since I am young, I am reckless and/or backed into a lamp post, or something... oh well.

I know how you feel! I had someone back into my car as well. I had it repaired and now all of the electronics are screwed up. I'd rather have the weird looks!

Haven't seen a 1er but a Boxter got a shock today!

Have my 135 SGM 6spd bout 3 months in NC, haven't seen any.
Today a guy in Porshe Boxter is driving all around me checking car out...toying with me......guess he figured a '135' must be a 'entry level' BMW.....
Well he takes off from 55mph on by me, I drop to 3rd and all he saw was my rear bumper from then on

I'm 51 and feel like a teenager!
