Strange I don't remember making that comment...? And last thing I recall is someone calling me a Wii-tard

If Rachel wins (which she probably will), will she have to make out with herself?

Look at Dave's last post. It says they are starting at 8:30 and gives a running order (AWD, RWD, FWD). I'd expect about a 1/2 hour per car.

A few of us are thinking of going for a drive after the dyno, we might use that route or change it, just a heads up! |

FYI - My car is currently in pieces in my garage. The plan is to get it back together this evening. However, there is a currently an alignment issue between a couple of undisclosed parts that may hinder reassembly. The bottom line is that I am still planning on being there, but may run into a problem getting the car back in one piece.
Dave, if my potential lack of attendance causes you a problem, PM me. Mike |

Ok, the car is back in one piece, however, the test drive revealed a problem. I'll be putting the car back up on jackstands first thing the the morning and making a change. Hopefully I will still make it to ESP.

Sorry guys. I just got finished getting the car back together again at 3:00. I ended up dealing with a couple of galled bolts during this morning's disassembly and there was some parts fabrication that took about an hour longer than it should have. I'll provide some more details about what I was doing a little later this evening.

Was fun! Thanks for posting this, Rachel and Dave!
I wish I could've gone on the cruise afterwards, but I didn't have time to. I remember people saying that they got much, much better results last year. I think they had some setting wrong for all of the BMWs yesterday. It was more than corrected, by a long shot. Waiting for the results to be emailed to me, but both Rachel and I (and a few other tuned N54s) were turning stock numbers in the 275-295hp region. We're talking including cars with intercoolers/RR DPs/PROCede V3, plus other cars withr JB2 and JB3 tunes. It was coooold too, and the they had 3 big fans blowing 40 degree air. It should have been much, much higher results, even if it is a Mustang dyno. |

Larry, thanks for the update. Now I don't feel so quite so bad for not making it up there.
The project I was working on was Riss catless down-pipes and CP-e mid-pipes hooked up to the BMW performance muffler. I was also doing the short shifter install while the exhaust was out. Once the car was back together Friday night, the exhaust produced a high pitched whistle between 1500 and 2000 RPM while under load. Outside of this range, it sounded like an open system. There were no leaks in the system; it's just the way it worked out, poorly, at least for a street vehicle. There was no way that I was going to make it from Westfield to Sterling without getting a ticket, or maybe even impounded. We were even worried about the locals during the test drive. Saturday morning started with an hour long debate over whether to try the down- and mid-pipe combination with the original stock muffler or to cut the resonator out of the stock mid-pipes and use the stock catted mid-pipes with the performance muffler. The performance exhaust option won. So, cutting the stock mid-pipes ended up taking about an hour longer than it should have. Then in removing the CP-e midpipes, the bolts between the mid-pipes and the tail piece galled, which added another hour of making little progress. The rest of the install went smoothly but it was 3:00 by the time everything was buttoned up and road tested. The current configuration is ok but is a bit smelly, probably too smelly to make it through our state's wonderful emissions testing, even with the secondary cats and regardless of whether or not the ODBII output is ok. The sound of the current system is louder than stock, but not obnoxious. As you wind the car above 4000 rpm, it starts to make a raspy sound that I think most would describe a exotic. The butt dyno says that I am making more power and the nanny (DTC) agrees, as it is now effortless to set off (I also think I forgot to mention this is all in combination with JB3). With only the ELSD, the car will drive right into a power slide without effort, almost accidently even. I have thrown a code twice. The first code reset with a battery disconnect. The second has not reset. Picking up an ODBII code reader is on the agenda for tomorrow. Getting a low dyno number after all the work would have been disappointing. I think that I am going to end up putting in a set of catted down-pipes with the CP-e mid-pipes and a set of high flow secondary cats. So, if anybody is interested in a set of Riss Racing catless downpipes and an O2 simulator, drop me a PM. I'll make you a pretty good deal on them if you are willing to wait for me to get a set of catted downpipes, which Riss is currently out of. Mike |
