accelerating thru traps at strip

I was wondering if it's acceptable either by rule or etiquette to continue to accelerate after passing thru time traps at the end of a quarter mile run?

You're supposed to start stopping as soon as you pass the 1/4. There isn't a lot of road after those traps you know

I usually have to apply moderate-heavy braking after I cross the line or else I'll miss the turnout to go back. Not really illegal but kind of pointless to keep accelerating through

The timing markers at 1,000' and 1320' (finish line) are the trap speed measuring points. your speed is not measured past the finish line.

However I would recommend you stay in the throttle for one-one thousand two-one thousand after you THINK you've crossed the stripe because it's human nature to back off too early.

If you're at an NHRA strip then the runoff is designed to handle Top Fuellers at 330+ MPH so your little street sedan has plenty of room to slow down.

Once you've crossed, get off the throttle, select neutral and let the speed wash off before gradually applying brakes. You will have plenty of time to slow for the turn around.

Thanks very much for your reply. I've not been to a strip for many years and certainly not with a small sedan like the 135i. I've done old mustangs which have no brakes at all. The strip is the only place that I would legaly and safely be able to exceed a 100mph. Am I wrong in assuming that the 135i with dct should be able to do 100mph in around 14 sec with little effort? I also believe the stopping distance from 100mph to zero is around 200'.
