Starting Kit Help

So I need help from you guys.

I'm not looking to drop hundreds on a ton of stuff at the moment outside of a quality buffer unit. I want to keep it to a short list of essentials and there is so much information and variety shown here that I have no idea where to start.

What products would be a good base line for a beginner? Things I could not live without? I've been detailing by hand or with a small buffer for years using Megs OTC stuff, but I've learned quickly by reading all this here that there is SO much more to this. I definitely enjoy it and have been able to take care of my paint and achieve good results with inferior methods so I'm ready to take the next step.

So, if you were to propose a starter kit of quality products that play well together, what would you go for?

Thanks for the help guys.

My recommendation is to email detailers domain or detailed image. They have contact info on their websites or you can send them a PM thru this website as both Greg from detailed image posts here as does Phil from detailers domain.

Let them know your car and colour (specifiacally JET black as it is a softer paint) and let them know you want a starter kit. I contacted them and got a great email back from both. It had detailed recommendations for my specific car. They recommended soap, a polisher, polishing pads, polish, sealant, clay kit, wash mitt, buckets everything. The best part was they both offered me a detailed package with a package price. The package savings was significant.

To start I think I got:
Porter cable polisher with lake country hydrotech pads for heavy polish/light polish /finish
M105 and M205 polish
Menzerna power lock sealant
clay bar with lube
2 buckets with grit guards
wash mitt
soap
waffle weave drying towels
a big ass bag of microfibre polishing towels

Take the plunge now and invest in a polisher. It is a simple skill to learn and makes a huge difference in your cars finish. Tons of resources online with hints on how to use them.

As van said, I'd be more than happy to help put together a kit based on your needs and budget. With that, please let me know exactly what you're looking to purchase and if you have a specific budget in mind? Do you already have wash/maintenance stuff and looking for just a polishing kit, or do you need everything?

Once I know, I'll be able to assist you a bit better. Until then, we have some polishing kits already packaged together and one I recommend you check out is the PC 7424XP with M105, M205 and 5.5" pads. It's a great starter kit and will get you used to polishing while giving great results. However, if you want to really do a great job, you may need an additional finishing polish, some pads, etc., so let me know what you have already and your budget at your convenience, then I'll put together something more specific.

Eh, I didn't think much of AutoGeek when I looked at it. I'll definitely be supporting the sponsors if at all possible.

The forum is very good... as long as you only discuss the products THEY SELL. Try discussing products they don't sell. Good luck. They are not innovative either. People like Phil from Detailers Domain works his ass off trying to find the best of the best out there and brings them to market. A lot of these detailing lines, no one would have ever known about unless Phil took it upon himself to test them out and then offer them through Detailer's Domain. Companies like AG just see what Phil does, then start offering it also. If Phil doesn't LOVE IT, he won't SELL IT. You cannot say that about AG, who is the Wal Mart of detailing products. They will sell whatever, if it's good or not. To each their own, but AG won't see a penny from me.
