Porsche quotes the weight for the lightest possible spec per EU6 regs. In this case that's no AC (18 lbs), no radio (9 lbs), smaller fuel tank (20 lbs), PCCB brakes (33 lbs, $7.5k), bucket seats (24 lbs, $4.8k), LiIon battery* (30 lbs, $2.5k) no other options. Fluids are then full, except for gas at 90% (11 lbs). If you spec and weigh the car that way you should hit the claimed 2955 lb curb weight.

I expect only a handful of cars to leave the factory that way, and I haven't heard of any so far.

The GT4 features stock a fuel tank with a capacity of 54 liter. However, Porsche offers, for the GT4 only, free of charge a fuel tank of 64 liter (Porsche option #085). So that's a range extender bumping the fuel capacity from 54 liter (14.27 gallons) to 64 liter (16.91 gallons), i.e. 10 liter (2.64 gallons). Except if mistaken, the larger GT4 fuel tank has no impact on boot space. I guess Porsche will have a race-track related explanation for this smaller/larger fuel tank offer.

On the other hand, the offer might have an additional reason. As we know, the official curb weight (unladen mass) figure includes weight of fuel at nominal tank capacity. Hence, for the official GT4 curb weight figure, Porsche only needs to take into account the weight of 54 liter of fuel (instead of 64 liter) ...despite the fact that most GT4s will likely feature the optional 64 liter fuel tank. Otherwise stated: juggling with curb weight.

So BMW, fit the M2 stock with a 30 liter fuel tank and offer - free of charge - an optional 52 or 60 liter tank, to further reduce the official curb weight figure.

Exactly correct. The smaller tank is also fitted to the Spyder, making it the lightest Porsche on sale. Except if you put the same amount of fuel in it as the base Boxster (ie 5 gallons each) it's the base car that's going to be lighter. But Porsche can claim a sub 2900 lb curb weight. How's that for marketing?

Just got news from a GT3 RS owner that the GT4 RS is a go...BUT...they'll finish all the production of the GT4 first before starting on the RS so who knows how long that's gonna take. Not completely sure how solid this is but for those who couldn't get a hold of a GT4 and really wanted one, there's still hope.

Since my spot isn't quite firm yet and build may start in Oct/Nov, I'm thinking if I should move my deposit on the RS and get an earlier RS spot. The itch is big on this and I'd be pretty inclined for the RS if I got the GT4. Decisions...

What would you guys do?

if you got the fund, keep your gt4 spot and add the gt4 rs, just to make sure that your chances of getting one is better. You can always cancel the other order once the spot is guaranteed.

There is a thread on rennlist from a person who is doing ED and met with AP at Weissach Friday or Saturday. AP said that gt4 rs was not in the works this gen or the next, but that something was going to be announced this coming week in the the next few days. AP also signed the guys gt4. Pretty sweet trip if you ask me. So we shall see this week official information regarding the latest with the gt4.

AX in my GT4 yesterday. Fastest car on street tires there out of ~120 drivers- the car is quick out of the box despite the tall gearing. Around 1.5-2 seconds faster than my 1M on equal tires. Perhaps slightly more fun on this course, but probably less so on others.

Some first impressions of forum fellow csbear about his GT4:

Rowing through the gears on the GT4 reminds why I will never give up on manual cars, at least in 2 seater form. The gearbox, shifter, clutch all really are mechanically "chunky" in a good way, yet smooth as butter in their operation. You can tell Porsche made this manual tranny for car enthusiasts and gear-heads. I kept it under about 4K rpm, but you realize the potential it has and break-in can't come soon enough. I hear around 5000 - 5500 rpm it really wakes up, so excited for that. I did a little canyon-carving, following my brother around in his 911, and found out that turns which I couldn't imagine taking in my previous car were just too easy for the GT4. It is very composed and confident on sharp bends. The sound is amazing and hearing it just behind your ears, with the PSE on, while going through the I95 Baltimore tunnel was orgasmic, lol! The reduced sound dampening is so appreciated! Porsche did a great job with the noise on this thing and I haven't even taken it to the higher part of the tach yet.

Motor Trend reported some understeer in their video, but that's really common and also so people don't end up killing themselves on the street or track. Couple of things can be done to fix that, tire/wheel setup, camber adjustments, stiffen rear bar, etc. Gearing is a little tall, but not a deal breaker by any means.

The car gets a lot of attention obviously, like people taking cell phone pics. 911, Tesla, and even a Ferrari driver slowed down to check the car out, etc. A bunch of guys on their sport bikes gave me a thumbs up and so did a guy in his 997(?) Turbo. Yes, it garners a lot of respect from fellow car nuts, which is fine by me because I love talking about cars with my fellow car enthusiasts...doesn't matter which brand. Filling it up at the Sunoco was funny. Everybody trying to check it out, but people were respectful and kept their distance. It's probably the fixed wing, Sapphire Blue color, very low height, and the satin back wheels which have people thinking "exotic," or something.

I'm a big fan of BMW M cars, but if you can sacrifice the back seats, pay the extra $, and can actually find a GT4 or allocation, you will be very happy no doubt. Does it have the low-end torque of something like an M4 or C63S, probably not (although it's more than enough I feel), but that's not the whole point of this car as many know. It is a total package sports car, with sublime handling, ample power, lots of driver involvement, great sounds, and almost exotic looks.

Mild understeer stock, but I stiffened the rear bar one click and it cured it. It'd be easy to dial in oversteer by softening the front bar- no question the MT car had something wrong with it.

Some driveways are tricky. I couldn't get out of a Starbucks on my drive back without significant scraping. Not a huge deal- the lip is black so it doesn't show, and it's replaceable, but it is low enough that it does make the car less usable.

Massively different cars, almost polar opposites in many respects... I'll write it up when I get some time, but other than being rare, manual and fast the cars have very little in common.

Pretty much nails it. One is the perfect track car while the other is a great daily driver.

For those wishing they could get a GT4... As a street car, this is better:

No AC though, so you'd better live up north...

At the Track

https://youtu.be/jisTNJMDppg

Had the pleasure of driving the GT4 at the track during an event I was running last weekend. Unfortunately, I wasn't allowed to go balls to the wall. It's as good as all the reviews have repeatedly stated.

If I had the means, this would be my weekend and track day car as Porsche GT cars are really meant for life at the track. The stock brakes are incredible. Grip and ride quality are phenomenal. There's nothing in the BMW stable that comes close to this, so there is no comparison.

IMO a stock E9x M3 sounds better from a spectator's point of view (see video) , but the engine sound inside of the GT4's cockpit is pure bliss. Pete's autox video captures some of the aural delight.

since the Spyder is more for the street than the track----NOT having A/C sounds like a bad combination.
