link between long cranks and odbc reset
anyone else notice when the obd codes are reset, the long cranks go away? - i had been having long cranks (3-5 seconds) for about two months when it finally threw the "check engine" icon on the dash
being curious, i busted out the odb-ii code reader and captured the error - since someone else had mentioned (here on 1addicts) that they noticed a decrease in long cranks when the codes were reset, i gave it a try ... sure enough, the long cranks have essentially disappeared - its been about 600 miles since the reset thoughts? 2010 135i --- 09/09 build w/ 5800 miles --- hpfp has not been replaced Last edited by mallards; 03-19-2010 at 08:58 PM.. Should have left the code for bmw to see. Hard to get the hpfp replaced without the code. Your pump needs to be replaced, its just having a good day right now

Any chance that the warmer weather has more to do with it than clearing the code?
It's possible that once the system detects low fuel rail pressure during a start, it extendes the crank time a little to allow it to pressurize, but if that were the case you'd see the long crank on every cold start it would seem. |

It's strange that clearing the stored codes would have any effect on it, but it's hard to tell what they've tried to do in the programming to help with the fuel pump failures. |
