Muffler delete + catless dps?

Hi,

I have a 135i 2008 with 170k km on it. I like it very much.
I never post my car here, so I let some picture of my car.

Now, my car is full stock exept a jb4 g4 and afe muffler delete. I like the sounds like this.

Recently, I buy a BMW performance exhaust with Y pipe with AR catless pipe used. I don't know I will install the BMW P-E because it very heavy for nothing.
But I'm scary if I install AR catless DPS with the muffler delete, because It will be very LOUD.

At montreal, I know the cop is not easy with illegal exhaust, It that why I inform here it a good idea too keep my setup with Bmw PE ?
I don't find a sound clip with this setup, anyone have one?

PS: sorry my english suck, I speak french.

Thanks

Yes, it will be EXTREMELY loud with no cats, no muffler, and no resonators.
VERY loud.
If Montreal police are tough on aftermarket exhausts, you could be in trouble. it WILL attract attention.

I mean I keep the stock midpipe. Only catless dps + afe exhaust.
Last summer, only afe exhaust, I never had a problem with the cop but i don't know with catless dps

I have cat less down pipes, muffler deletes and resonated midpipes, can't hardly hear anything going 70-80 on the highway, but it sounds good driving around, but I've been around loud cars alot of my life so I might be used to it lol

Yes it will be very loud. I started out with a muffler delete, then added catless downpipes and it was way too loud. especially during cold starts. Then replaced the muffler delete with a BMW Perf exhaust and it sounded pretty sweet. Now I have the Perf muffler, N55 midpipe(gutted resonator), and stock downpipes(due to Smog). It sounds just as good now as it did with the Perf muffler and catless downpipes, just less raspy

you don't even need to buy a y-pipe. it's already inside your resonator. If you decide later that you want it a little louder then just cut open your resonator and hollow it out

In your early 135i, you have the N54 engine, secondary cats on you Mid-Pipe. I have the N55 engine in 2011 135i, which has no secondary cats and a single resonator /y-pipe.

I just installed a catless downpipe on a stock exhaust two weeks ago, and loaded a custom PTF/Cobb tune. The noise at cold start (lasts 40 secs) is embarrassingly loud. I did a YouTube video and will post a link here.

After the cold start, it sounds pretty good. Only noticeable when you step on it. No drone in the car. I was about to install Vibrant Performance resonators to muffle the sound and make it more deep sounding, but decided to wait...

Moral of the story. If you plan in installing a Downpipe, don't get an exhaust or modify anything else until you hear the DP on its own.

Welcome to the forum. Im from Mirabel, if you ever want to meet up, or come to a track event ...

Just installed a catless DownPipe from N54tuning.com on my N55 based 2011 135i. I have the stock exhaust.

With my Cobb/PTF custom tune and other bolt-ons, the stock exhaust + DP sounded better (throaty).

This is a short sound clip of a 2011 BMW 135i after a cold start. Car has N55 downpipe (n54tuning.com Performance Line) on stock exhaust, and custom Cobb/PTF stage 2 + tune.

Listen how the sound starts out raspy and loud, but tones down down and becomes throatier with a nice turbo whistle when exhaust flap and secondary air pump closes. The tone down sequence occurs at the 38 seconds mark...

Im thinking about getting Vibrant Performance resonators installed to deepen the sound, and make it less raspy at cold start, and Wide Open Throttle...

Sounds good. it's a bit different with the N54, but loudness wise about the same.

P.S. holy crap those tires are bald ! lol

This is a cold start with catless DP and perf muffler (stock mid-pipe)

N54 car

It's on JB4 map 8 so it's a bit louder than usual

go to 1:30 to hear a few low revs

LOL. A little too much track abuse will do that to the best of them, after a few months. ZII's have rocked my world though. Probably will get a fresh set of first gen ZII's or newer gen ZII StarSpec's for the 2015 lapping season here in Quebec, Canada (late April to late October)...

Yours tones down at the 58 second mark. Sounds extremely good afterwards! Wow!

nice ! I was torn between the Z2 and RE-11s when it was time to change for me. I had the Z1 ss before. loved the grip, but the road noise got annoying after a while, so I didn't wanna deal with that again on the Z2. went with the RE-11. Same grip, more audible when they break loose, and much quieter on the highway.

Yeah it takes a minute for it to tone down. I miss having catless DP

current setup sounds a bit more refined though

Yeah ... My cold starts like a diesel tractor with straight pipes ... I notice that if I start rolling immediately, ie, put load on the motor, it is not as bad ...

I assume you had to give yours up/got tired of swapping back to catted DP, due to the emissions law in your state?
