Pictures of the 128/135 TPMS sensor and valve
Thought many of you might be curious to know what these little guys look like. These pictures come from our product line up. They are the same sensors and valves used as OE in our cars and the same that you could buy at BMW.
Sensors $38 Valve $8

Thanks Gill! No wonder there's a bagillion stick on weights on the opposite side of the wheel from the valve stem. That sensor thing doesn't look too lightweight.

i can't find a link to the OEM TPMS sensors/valves on the tirerack website.
edit: never mind, found it as a popup while browsing for wheels. edit2: the website states that it can only be purchased as part of a tire/wheel set? i guess i'll have to look elsewhere. |

That is why I asked? I am buying wheels from one place, tires from another, and having a local shop mount and balance. I just need the sensors or will just run without them. It is a track setup anyways.

Why do we have the funky big valve cap on ours, and this one looks like a standard valve cap? I am not sure if it is enough to change the balance of the wheel or not, but should I use the large ones on both wheel sets, or just the factory wheels.

Those caps are light as a feather. No balance change is possible.

Plastic valve caps also easily fall off when the wheel gets real hot. Plus plastic caps don't help keep pressure if the valve is a little bit dodgy.
Almost all motorsport sanctioning bodies require metal valve caps. |

It's the Stück Piece, init. Had I known they were that cheap from Tire Rack I'd have gotten them a few weeks ago when I bought my new VMR wheels. On tirerack.com it's $204 for the set so instead I decided on the aftermarket RS Technik variety from pyspeed.com. Hopefully they work ok.
EDIT: Realized that this post is now 5 years old. My bad but how bout Tirerack go back to 2008 prices. |
