The best (most accurate) time-keeping instruments aren't mechanical.

Mechanical watches are obsolete and only used as jewelry, status symbol or for fashion purposes.
If you're inside your car, none of that matters.
So this thread fails by associating the two.

Every gentleman has a decent timepiece. It is not uncommon that a watch would cost more than our M's.
.
+1

maybe these threads belong in the off topic section - where "what watch are you wearing" already exists

also another watch thread has been started in the 1M section some time ago and nobody said anything negative about it

btw i saw my next watch in the old 1M-watch thread

Don't let Neil fool you guys. He constantly calls me asking where the sunroof switch is. When I start to explain he interrupts with, "what time is it???"
This all makes sense now!

Make your case.
Do pay particular focus on how a watch enhances driving, which is the twist offered by this thread.
Not arguing the point of collecting watches as a hobby in and by itself.
Every forum I frequent eventually has a thread about watches.

most guys i know who are into fast expensive cars are also into fine, expensive watches goes hand in hand.

now whether or not the watch actually improves the driving experience, i dont know about that. however, the feeling you get as youre driving your 1m (or other sports car) while at the same time seeing your favorite time piece on your wrist as your driving the car... well thats priceless

anyway one of my dream watches for 2012 this rolex daytona costs about US$30 grand....

That's a good argument point.
There's no question that cars also are intrinsically associated with beautiful, hot young women. Witness the provocatively clad models at auto shows.
So, having a hot young lady in the passenger seat while driving your BMW with your favorite watch would be the ultimate driving.

When running in "epuipped" class I use an Alpha but I would like to eventually get a Timewise.

Omega or Rolex. But for driving none is needed... Clocks are everywhere! In the car, the phone etc. The only reason to wear one on the arm is to show what you can afford. Its jewelry nothing else... ;-)
