I definitely agree, but you pays your money and you do whatcha want with it.

At least it doesn't have " turbo " logos on it.

Because race car!

( thus far I haven't seen anyone advocate it being a better setup, maybe he just had it sitting on a shelf, or perhaps just a target power #)

I, too, expect to be going this way very shortly with a very elegantly-engineered system.

Full disclosure to come!

Wow

That's amazing my friend, can this be achieved on a 135i with the N55 engine surely it is easier due to it being a single scroll turbo? What reinforcements did you do to the block?

Thanks again

I am sure there is nothing he did or he needed in terms of reinforcing the block. It is solid for these power levels as it is the N54T; even Tuningwerk for their 520 to 720ps 1M RS tune levels did not need reinforcements (check Dackelone's threads).

I may be wrong but with the N55 engine close to 450 ps is most you can get without digging deeper in the block which is similar to bolt-on (twin turbo) N54 tunes.

Come again? 720 hp 1M?

The Engine might not need it but what about the gearbox?

Yes, other than the engine every other essential part of the car needs reinforcement of course. Engine can take it. Dack had a front page thread about it but must be in the 2 series section.

The twins run out of power at high RPMs so I felt the need for the larger turbo do make up for that...

I had the 135i (n55) and crashed it... So I couldn't find an n54 135i where I live so went with the 1M... When I bought I had no plans whatsoever to go ST but after I fiddled with the twins with no luck I decided to go with it... Obviously it can't go back to stock, but I never really plan on selling it, being so rare and manual transmission.. After a couple of years of daily driving maybe I'll just keep it as a track or drag car...

The guys with n55 aren't yet achieving these power levels I think... No reinforcements to the engine (yet) lol

I'm still fiddling with the tuning part with the JB4, so I'm expecting a little increase in power still.. After that we might need to look into engine reinforcements!!

How about longevity ? Can the parts take the strain of this kind of brutal power output ?

The key is in the tuning and fueling. Provided those are both up to par, this motor will reliably make 600 or so to the wheels with no major issues (outside of the peripheral parts that always fail on 54s). Push much past that and your margin gets thinner, but even so we were blessed with a very stout OE platform. The WR currently stands at mid 700s on a 100% stock motor.

You just don't see N54s dropping rods, warping cranks, valvetrain issues, etc. Most that go kaboom are the result of overly aggressive tuning, not power levels per se.

Then you add in the fact that these singles are far more efficient, you can produce equivalent power with far less timing and the ensuing heat.

The N54 is very temperamental and fuel still needs some work. But it's a ridiculously efficient and strong motor.

I probably missed this but i'm assuming you are stacking the JB with a DME flash of some type to handle VANOS, fuel, timing, etc?
