I highly doubt that they would build more than 5,000 + units. I mean how many people would want this car. It would probably just fulfill the extra few that want it (1500 +). I'm just happy that I can get one regardless of what happens and that now there is no need to put a deposit down to reserve a "spot" and then find out that dealer already exceeded their number of appropiated units.

Interesting to note what Dackelone had to say about zero production cars. I always wondered what happened to cars available to journalists.

sounds good to me. i never understood why this would be limited production when it's pretty lackluster compared to others (i.e. CSL, LTW) and why this car is being extremely hyped and marketed for something that so few people would be able to buy. definitely not surprised by this

Hey... not all of BMW's lineup is sold thru Military Sales, ie with a substantial discount off of US prices. IF you guys really want a 1M// just buy one from a US dealer and ship it over here. Or pick it up via ED and then put it into USAREUR system.

Just sit tight for a few more months and I am sure MCS will make an annoucement one way or the other.

This was one of many reasons I opted for an RS4 instead of an M3 (e.g. total number of imported RS4s in the US over 2 yrs equaled 1/3 of annual sales of M3s which of course will be produced for 4-5 yrs).

For people that want to pick one up in the secondary market, this is good news, you will have plenty to chose from. And yes, dealers should not be in the driver's seat and have the pricing leverage if BMW builds as many as it wants. I just hope I don't start seeing as many 2012 1 ///Ms as Evos, STIs, R32s, etc.
Completely but respectfully disagree. For those of us that want this car for the right reasons, performance, etc, this is great news. It means we might actually be able to reasonably afford one. This will keep it in line with BMWs mission to make it less expensive and the more they build, the lower the cost of parts will be in the future. Not everyone will pony up the extra dough when a 135i or 128i is a pretty nice rig. I think this moves makes a lot of sense and that is not something I say a lot about BMW lately. IB

I agree. I dont want people to be able to buy the same car I have. It makes me cry at night to think such a thing is possible.

Back on topic. This is awesome news for those of us that don't want to pay mark up to cover nothing other than imaginary demand.

For everyone that wants one but their lease doesn't end until a few months later, why don't you either put up on lease busters say 1-year before the end of the lease (and swallow the lease transfer costs).

I had a feeling the stories about limited production were all a bunch of crap. True, they'll only be in production for a modest period of time, but during that time they'll crank out as many cars as the market demands. BMW's goal is to sell cars and maximize profit, not *not* sell cars the customers want.

Sounds like they will be in production for at least 10-12 months. If you really want one you'd probably get a much better deal waiting 4-6 months for the hoopla to die down.

Or just trade the car in? They'll let you out of your lease if you buy another new car from them. Seems like a lot of people no comprendo that.

Not entirely true, Dackel. Pentagon received one Z8. Probably doesn't change your point regarding the 1M, just saying.

And I hope you're wrong.
