Top Gear Supercar of the Year

1M features, thou they seemed a little disappointed with it. But at least it was considered for the test.

They seem to love the long termer, which was crashed on the TG track!

Auto Express didn't even put the 1M in their COTY.

The Evoque won. I guess that says it all.

What crash on the test track? If you mean the excursion onto the grassy run-off, you need some more experience of crashes ;-)

A car you can't now buy is never going to be Autocars COTY

1M is now considered a 'SuperCar'?

Putting the 1M in that category just shows how good the car is.

Haha agreed. I don't believe it belongs in that same category even though it is an amazing car.
I actually found a YouTube video titled: "BMW 1 series M Supercar Clip" haha

I'll have a go scanning it in but it will go online in a month.

The group test is actually "Stigs Supercar Showdown 2011". So to make in, it's considered pretty special. There is a Golf GTI Ed 35 in too. But others are Boss Mustang LS, Atom Mugen, then big guns: Veyron SS, Ferrari FF, Zonda, GT3 RS 4.0, XKRS, and the MC12-4C.

Evo liked it a lot so when they do their similar feature it's bound to be included.

@Clive, ok it wasn't a full crash but it was certainly an off!!

Guess the Brits idea of a supercar is quite different than mine(and most others).

The cover says Stig's Supercar Showdown, but the actual article is called Stig's Performance Cars of the Year 2011.

They also have a review about the Lamborghini Aventador in this issue.

Probably going to have to wait for Top Gear to post it on the website, it's about 44 pages of the magazine and then the Aventador adds another 8 to it.

Oh yeah it a long long article with a few bits about the 1M sprinkled about.

It's the supercar performance at affordable prices angle they've gone for!!

maybe they've run out of comparisons to do? extremely weird grouping of cars here... i mean we have a veyron, an atom, and a 1m all competing against one another, supposedly benchmarked against a golf? who thinks "hm... i was looking for a 1m, but it's not quite enough for me. well they seem to love the veyron... maybe that's the car for me"

Why do people continue to believe the turbos split duty between high and low RPM's? Hasn't this been discussed over and over?

Its not about myths, its about uneducated people who dont know jack about how multi turbo systems work, or the difference between dual sequential (both turbos on the same bank one feeds the other) or dual parallel (one turbo on each bank of the motor), the latter of which the M coupe is.

Sequential turbos are found in the likes of the Mighty Supra and RX7.... Whereas parallels are in the likes of the Bugatti Veryon...

exactly. this kind of mistakes makes them far less credible. the 335d also has sequential turbo's.

well to be perfectly fair, nobody ever accused top gear of being credible! the lineup of cars alone is enough to discredit the comparison. whether you call it a myth or mass idiocy is semantics (and point of view perhaps) to me, but this isn't the first bit of misinformation perpetuated by top gear, and it certainly won't be the last. entertainment, face value, grain of salt, etc.
