Hi Guys,

Ok, as promised I went to the Essen Motor Show and found the two options for headlights for you 128i guys. Here are my photos. The vender had the DEPO’s all wrapped up… so not much I could do about that. I was kind of surprised that the prices were kind of high. AD Tuning near me had better prices. There were three venders at the show selling these lamps. Only two of them had lights to show me! There are my best photos of them.

There are two choices when it comes to aftermarket headlights: DEPO’s which look OE and SONAR. With both you have a choise of black or silver/chrome reflectors/inserts. I like the chrome versions… so that’s what I took photos of. And besides… everyone has seen the black versions here before.

Enjoy,
Dackel

SONAR’s…

Dack,

When you looked at these, could you tell if one was able to open up the back compartment easily to install an HID system?

Could you tell whether or not one could replace the AE bulb to something more powerful?

I wish I could get a first hand look at these; I'd tinker with them to see if I could give halogen users a more viable and comfortable alternative.

Sorry, I did not take them apart nor did I see whats behind the bulb cover/pannel. Never even thought about retrofit HID's for these.

I have installed H7 6000K in my new sonar headlights and it look awesome..

I only have a question...i connected the 6 wires from the leds (3 red and 3 black) directly to the respective wire of the low beams as shown in the picture..

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

But after this it still does an error (low beam error).
what can i do to eliminate the error...should i connect also the low beam)...cause it will sucks since the low beam its yellow and the LED pure white...

Any chance you snapped some pics of the install and the final product? I'm very interested in seeing these installed in another car. The bulb error you're getting is probably because of the HID retrofit??

Of course..

The HID's have CANBUS error canceller...so it's not from them..
I tried to connect the wires from the low beams to the LED's and the error is gone...but with thi solution i have a nasty yellow light in the headlight...

Leodevil - nice pics! The Sonar's look good.

I would suggest you contact: Patrys on the e90 post forum. He lives in Warsaw, Poland and does car coding - via remote control over the web. Perhaps he can code your car to not report the error codes. Plus looks like he is local to your location.

Could someone tell me where to purchase SONARs and if they are better than DEPOs? Also are SONARs easy to upgrade to LED and HIDs?

Dectane carries the Sonar lights. They already have LED AEs. As for the HID, the headlights aren't the problem, the car is. I think there's been only one instance where someone has put HIDs in a halogen car and had them work properly. It's not yet known what components that person used because the shop that did the install has been on holiday.

Bevarian LS1 is for existing Xenon OEM users to upgrade to Bevarians own LED/HID system. You can find out more info on this thread

It is not for Halogen guys... but they have told me they are working on upgraded DEPO units for us that will be available in a few months!

Still waiting on that DIY!!!!
