Specific model? My E36 is a 318is with the M42 engine... As far as the Vinylex is concerned, the only one I'm aware of is in the blue bottle:

I like it cause it's lower maintenance and more durable than leather... And besides, it's no cost compared to leather.

So far, I've had good luck with the Maguiar's Gold "ultimate protectant" vinyl spray bottle. Using on the dash and other molded plastic trim as well. Seems to be a cleaner and sealer rather than a treatment that seeps into the vinyl. http://www.meguiarsdirect.com/product_detail.do?q=4835 I think I'll try the vinylex next.

BTW, I apply it using a new, clean sponge: I pour some of the Vinylex into a shallow container (like a margarine tub with a lid), soak the sponge, squeeze out the excess, and apply... Repeat until done.
This method reduces/eliminates the chance of splattering the Vinylex on surfaces that you don't want treated (windows, carpeting, etc.)... When you're done, just leave the sponge in the container, snap the lid on it, and save it for the next time.
