Price?

Although I still check on the 1M, I am basically a no go, UNLESS, Car and Driver price quote is close. (43,000)

They were way off on the '12 Mustang Boss 302, which prices just were released. They predicted 36,000 for the 302. Real prices are:

GT 31,000

302 41,000

302 track 48,000

What is the latest on pricing for the 1M?

$43k?? Keep dreaming.

Just look at the existing BMW line up and pricing structure, then apply common sense. They won't be giving Ms away.

I would start writing your check with a "5" as the first digit.

if it's true about limited production, then the dealers are going to charge whatever they can and people will pay

Everything is speculation at this stage, but I recon it will start in high $40s and when you option it, low to mid $50s. if you take a look at the ///M pricing per model line (M3/M6/M5/X5&X6M), the premium is about 35% on average over the top of the line non-M variant (e.g. 335i, 650i, X5 4.4TT, etc.).

_______Top non-M__///M Pricing__% Diff__"is" Model
M3 vert _____51700_____67050_____29.7%____57700
M3 coupe____43150_____58400_____35.3%____50150
M3 sedan____41100_____55400_____34.8%
M6_________78450____102350_____30.5%
M6 vert_____85550____108150_____26.4%
M5__________n/a_______n/a_______#VALUE!
X5 ///M_____58900_____85700_____45.5%
X6 ///M_____67700_____89200_____31.8%

So if you take 35% as an avg indication, the 135i's base price of $36,350 (pre destination) yields an 'extrapolated' 1 ///M price of $49,000.

Again, pure guess, but I recon safe to assume by the time all is set and done you are at a 5-handle...

$48k before destination would be my guess. I cant see it being any lower than that, yet you know their goal was to keep it under $50k to maintain at at least a small semblance of affordability.

Given the same price, 302 track seems more appealing at a personal level than 1M. Now before flaming goes on I did say at a personal level. I feel 302 is a different beast than traditional well engineered German car and is a type of car I haven't dealt with.

And if it's a check with 5 as starting digit then it will have to be next gen 1M. There's too much overall similarity between existing 135i and 1M to justify that kind of money. If I am in the market for a new 1 series then 1M is the best buy, no question.

At some point a car is not worth the price. Example my 2008 335i coupe was priced between 40-50 depending on the options. I limited the options, got a discount and was south of 45. I thought at the time 45,000 was worth it for my first BMW.

The 1M at 50,000-55,000 has a price problem.

Not that I would buy ANY of these cars but:

1M vs GT Mustang
1M vs Boss 302
1M vs Boss 302 track
1M vs base vette (they are discounted)
1M vs grand sport vette (I priced this one at 53,500)
1M vs CPO M3
1M vs CPO Caymen

I applaud you guys for buying an 1M, that you will have to pay list or more for, probably will not get to test drive, is limited in colors, that you have to put a deposit down now, and finally have second thoughts because the F22 is around the corner.

I just can not do it for the above reasons. Do not flame me: I am old, retired, and on a fixed income.
