alpine white color code is standard for the US E90s... your SA can help you with that... still unsettling when the body shop doesn't know color codes.... |

If this body shop is asking you for the paint code on your car, PULL IT NOW!
How can they call themselves a repair shop if they can't figure out what the code is and where to find it. There is a guide that the shop should have. Its called Mitchells. Also, find out if they actually mix their own paint. If they don't you may have a color match problem. They may need to blend the fenders to match the front cover. This is not normally done because they are 2 different materials. The shop will tell you it needs to be done but that may be to hide the poor color match they are getting. The less you mess with the factory paint, the better. I'm sorry but your post scares me.

just out of curiosity, will metallic colors be even harder to match than nonmetallic, say sapphire black?

Black is Black. There is only 3 variances depending on the MFG. Other colors can have as much as 25. I would ask to see any reapir shops work and shop before I would let them do the work. I have seen some very bad work in my time. Saving money will only get you less quality work. It makes sense right?

Check and see which other panels get painted also. Some shops will fan the paint out over the adjacent panels (with a very light coat) to make the colour match better, especially with metalics where application technique is just as important as colour matching.

He told me to bring the car by so he can get a paint sample and match the colors. I will bring it by in the morning so he can better match it in the sunlight. I hope it will turn out fine.

THIS THREAD MAKES NO SENSE ....!
If you didn't take it to your BMW dealership or another professional shop then you wouldn't be here asking or doing the paint shop's job...! Ask your "mommy" to take the car to another shop for you.... since you don't want to be bothered doing it yourself or have "other" obligations !! |
