Cannot find post on cutting dash to put holder

I saw this great post from someone on here where he got a cut-out stencil, placed in on the dash, cut the hole, and placed a cubby-hole ( OEM) there. I think it would be a great to turn it into a custom flip-up gage holder.....

i would have a local reputable performance/high end auto shop do the work for you... since both of you are in socal that shouldnt be too hard to find.

just seems like one of those mods that you dont want to do yourself, because if you screw up, it will cost a lot of money to fix

I did it myself, and it came out great. You just have to remember that the dash is probably 3/8" thick, and it makes a mess with the dremel. I didn't even have a template. I just kept cutting a piece of cardboard until it looked like the hole on that would work with the bin, then cut a hand hole on the dash to feel around, to properly position the cardboard cutout.

It is definitely stinky to cut/burn through though, and I think takes some cojones to take a dremel to the middle of your dashboard. I'd recommend doing with windows down and outdoors. it will also take a bit of time to vacuum up all if the black crumbs that you'll undoubtedly get all over.

I would place a cloth over the whole interior, with just a cutout on area you are working on.

Guys: once you've completely disassembled a car 3 times over you develop the ability to do stuff like this all the time and have great results. I worked my way up from a 2000 Jetta GLX,,, This in comparison of other stuff I've done is a piece of cake.
I like the idea esp. because the plan is to hang inverted ( 2 if they fit) gauge holders so I can have them up when on the trac racing and down when cruising to keep a TOTAL sleeper profile
