Just had oil and filter change and now oil service light is on
Hi all,
Auto 128i 2008 112k i just had my oil and filter changed and the next day i got the oil service light. When i check the oil it shows low and says add 1 qrt. The thing is.... i watched my mech put the oil in so i know the level is not low. Yesturday right after the oil change the level said maximum/okay. Do you think that the oil sensor is faulty? Any body had this issue? Any help is appreciated. |

I wouldn't worry too much about a 1-off after a change. Keep an eye on it and check a few times and if it says it's good it's probably good.
Just because oil went in it doesn't mean it was actually the correct amount. But I'm still thinking you're probably OK. Pull it up in the menu again a few times over the next couple days and just go with what it tells you. |

I had an oil level sensor go bad. It started after oil change same as you describe. I added a little bit of oil & it read full. Then a few days later low, then normal, then low.

I can echo tracer bullet above. If had the reading tell me it's low, head to the store to get a quart, then it's fine. Eventually it stopped messing with me, but it could have been the sensor acting up for sure.

I just with it had both. I've had the oil level sensor go bad on both the 135i and Mini Countryman. Same part # for both cars. Slightly different symptoms but same result.

Pretty hard to mess up reading a dipstick. I've also read BMW was worried that there is a little crankcase fumes escaping out the dipstick tube. I think drivers failing to ever check their oil might be another factor.
I wish they had left good enough alone. Messing things up for those of us who knew to look and knew how isn't appreciated by me, at least. But more and more it looks like I will have to refurb an old car or get used to all the nannys.

All you guys who are so smart and love your dipsticks should also realize that the cars are made for a general population who doesn't check their oil (or much else).
