Ledermanz steering wheel & more fun with Alcantara
Picked up this M tech flat bottom steering wheel from fleebay seller Ledermanz last week. Went with half leather/half Alcantara, red 12 o'clock stripe, extra padding, and tri-color stitch. The M tech wheel is thicker than the sport wheel to begin with but adding the padded Alcantara brings this thing to Z4M levels of thickness!
The level of craftsmanship is top notch and I highly recommend the seller, great guy to deal with. Was able to source some extra fabric from him as well which I used to cover my instrument cover (like the 1M sans the orange stitch) and arm rest. arm rest post #44: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...0#post18752480

Looks good, mate. The red stripe is a nice touch.
I'm hoping to find the Performance shift boot and e-brake somewhere on Ebay for a fair price. I have contacted a guy; he knows an upholsterer who has made a few 1 M-style Alcantara cluster binnacles with white stitching. He wants $135 for it...

Nice looking interior! The red stripe looks really good - did you have the guy try to match the Coral interior? And I love the tri-color stitching, even on a non-M car; it's just cool-looking.
I've thought about going with the alcantara Performance wheel, but I'm a little concerned for how it might wear. Also, I don't want to lose my heated wheel function. I've heard the Z4M wheel is heated, so that's somewhere on my wish list - but it's a long list... |

NICE! I also upgraded to a suede wheel and carbon trim on my AW/CR 135.
Your wheel looks amazing. Glad to see your interior coming to gather so nicely. |

I wouldn't worry about wear with an alcantara wheel, they can last for a very long time with proper maintenance. I've had one for over a year and it looks as good as the day I bought it. Washed bi-weekly with water and I run a horsehair brush over it every so often. Just don't grab your wheel with dirty hands and you should be all set. Side note on the heated wheel...alcantara is a much more stable material, temperature wise, compared to standard leather. Doesn't get as cold in the winter, nor as hot in the summer so losing the heated function may not be as big of a concern.

Seller is Ledermanz. Each wheel is custom so you can pretty much get whatever configuration you want. Flat or not, extra thumb rests, Napa leather, perforated leather, alcantara, etc.

I found his wheels on eBay and they look incredible. I noticed that most seem to be buy it now or best offer. Any idea if he has much wiggle room on price? Your set up looks pretty trick but did he cut you a deal? Interested in possibly picking one up if the price is right. Thanks!

Super easy.
Two torx screws under the leading edge of the binnacle. Adjust steering wheel all the way down and out. Pop instrument cluster out and away from binnacle, unclip connection ( you may not even have to unclip I don't remember). And then 4 more torx screws iirc and you can remove the binnacle from the dash |
