Screwed up my headlights
I think I might of fried some things in my right headlight housing, since I got a little moisture in there and now have a low beam malfunction warning. I tried to let it dry overnight and it still did not come back on. I'm going to have the dealer diagnose it and if it ends up being more than a 400 Euro fix I am just going to buy a complete set of the euro headlights off of ebay.
My main question is, would the euro headlights be a direct plug and play as long as they are adaptive? Is there still coding involved? My car is US spec. Aaron |

You might want to get some of those gel-crystals that absorb water. They come in electronic products or you can even buy them in the PX or online. Put some of those packages inside the headlight over night. You might JUST get lucky.
IF your still getting a headlight malfunction, it could be the headlight. It could also be the footwell module(FR3) or the xenon ballast(IF your bulbs don't work). Yes, as long as you get a Euro AHL headlight they are plug and play. As long as your footwell model isn't burnt up. Make sure you get the AHL xenon headlights and not the regular xenon headlamps. Thanks Dack, really hoping its just the ballast. If it was the footwell module, would it also effect other things as well? My DRLs still work so I can't see it being a control module. Hopefully tomorrow I can get it all sorted out.

I threw the ballast in the oven at 200• F for 15 mins. Then found out I bent one of the connectors in too much when cleaning the corrosion on the plug. You should be able to do this.

Does anyone know if I were to buy a complete set of euro bi-xenons w/ahl(fully assembled with bulbs, ballasts, etc), would they need coded to work on my car?

On a side note, I had problems accumulating moisture when I was in Germany also. I was fortunate it didn't get bad enough I had to replace anything, but I read about the silica packs somewhere, stopped by the shoe section at the store and grabbed a good handful worth of packs and it cleared up the moisture by the next day - no further issues. Just in case it happens again...

Just got my euros installed and very pleased that I have working lights again.
Opened up my old passenger light and the ballast/control unit was pretty corroded and wet, so that was most likely my problem. Last edited by SchismX; 04-24-2015 at 04:40 PM.. |
