Is it possible to drive this good?

Saw this video of S2000 testing at the Nurburgring, and this guy was heel-toe'ing like doing nothing, I'm still much of a newbie at driving manual but I'm wondering, is it possible to become that good in controlling the pedals by self-practicing or will I probably need to go through racing school?

Yes it is. There are more talented drivers in this world. My friend Andre drives the same way(M3 E46, EVO 8 and 130i M)

At 2min23sec he brakes from 220kmh to 190/185 to go through Schwedenkreuz. Andre did it last week braking from 230kmh to 200kmh through Schwedenkreuz. I'm doing 170kmh there(same spot) But I'm a rookie

I actually just saw that video before the S2K one, now that is some crazy driving, I kept wondering how the hell is he not crashing, lol. Great drivers simply amaze me. Hope I'll one day race on the Nurburgring and drive as good as he does.

I'll give myself 6 months to get completely comfortable with driving a manual normally, then I'll start learning heal-toe'ing.

Talking about motor skills...you should see those guys juggling twenty knives and balancing 30 china plates on their heads while unicycling on a rope. With only one leg.

That´s a very decent amateur driver (The guy in the S2000). No less and no more. You´ll have at least ten drivers of such skill at any given open track day on the Ring. They come form as far as Scandinavia , England ans Spain for a track day. The problem is to get in a clean lap at all. The Ring gets closed down all the time because some idiot (often on a motorcycle) ran out of talent. If you ever plan to put in some track time, better to go under the week, not at the weekend, early morning and preferably with bad weather so the bikers stay at home.

On industry testing day you often have only drivers of at least the skill shown here. Often better. Though they are mostly restrained by having to go not 100% but a consisten 90% for long term endurance testing.

Exactly.

2 weeks ago the Ring was closed 4 times because of motorbike accidents....And then we had to wait and wait and wait...

Wow, what a video. I must say, that japanese dude is crazy driving 200+ miles on a convertible with no helmet.

:ROFL: That´s km/h not mph. A S2000 will not reach 200mph on the Ring even if you attach one of those famous JAT Rockets to them. Even a Porsche Carrera GT will have trouble going over 200mph on any part of the Ring.

Besides, that S2000 is driven very cleanly and well, but not that spectacularly fast.

One more thing: If you crash a S2000 at more than 200mph, a helmet will buy you a nanosecond of lifetime, not more....

A racing school may be a good idea at some point but first, I recommend a good high performance driving school using street cars. There are several excellent commercial schools located in various parts of the country. In addition, several chapters of the BMW CCA offer outstanding schools; as does the national Club during O'fest. Participating in a racing school before doing a street school (or a few) in street cars would be a waste of time and money even if the racing school accepted you as a relative novice. Congratulations on your commitment to learn to enjoy your car to the fullest.
