water pump fail ?
Seems like I have just experienced the inevitable water pump fail.
Was cruising along the freeway on my way to work this morning at 5 am and all of a soon I lose power and the the red thermostat came on. no warning at all !. So was able to get off the freeway and called my wife to come pick me up. As I was waiting did a quick search on my phone and seems like I have a water pump problem. And only 600 miles after my extended 100k warranty expires and 2 days before xmas. yeah!! So i was able to inch the car along for about 2 miles to encinitas BMW but the service center is closed on sundays. Was just wondering about how much will this set me back and how long will it take to fix? Thanks |

I would push for your ext warranty company to pick up the tab. Who knows, maybe there is a Santa. lol
IF not... you can buy a water pump and thermostat kit for about $510. Like from Tischer BMW or United BMW or Turner Motorsports. Here is Tischer's... http://www.trademotion.com/parts/200...iagram=1980080 Most dealers are charging about ~$1,300 I think. parts and labor. This link might be of interest to you... how long did your first water pump last? http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=765338

Ouch, I wouldn't have inched it along. I would have called a tow truck.
Assuming no additional damage from the extra travel, the water pump is about $500, thermostat about $120 - refill coolant $30 - labor not sure - probably $250 - $350. How many miles on it? |
