If you have sattelite radio prep

Does anyone know how I can add factory sattelite radio with this option? Is it simpler to get an aftermarket or can I add some module by BMW to get sat radio?

I intend to do the same. In my previous Bimmers the sat radio kit went where the 6 disk changer would otherwise go. It was a straight forward install and worked with the factory head unit.

Good luck!

If you want to do it on the cheap, simply buy the sat radio kit for $40. Mount the anteannae disk on the rear parcel shelf, and run the wire under the back seat to the console. Connect the ourput to the aux port. Power it from the console port plug. You're done. The receiver sits in the console. Adjust the aux volume to high.

you can use the rooftop sharkfin rather than having the aftermarket antenna rattling around on the shelf. Cable is only $25 at best buy. connection is under the mat in the trunk

Do you use the existing head unit to control the sat radio or do you need a separate unit? Also do you have to go through the radio channel instead of a regular sat setup, because it never sound as good going through the radio channel.

Woops didnt see this post. Glad you can use the headunit and just plug into the back. That makes it very easy and inexpensive, but what plugs in and how much does it usually cost?

It's the Sirius / XM receiver. I think it costs about $450.

Can you please explain how it works? Does it work through your factory radio or is there a separate unit?

I've done it on my previous car, 05 Z4. It's a separate receiver that plugs into your BMW Factory head unit. The antenna hooks up to this receiver. The receiver is mounted in the trunk and power accessory was already wired. A harness was taped in the trunk ready. For the Z4, a reprogram was not necessary but I understand that it's a requirement for the 1/3 series. I may be incorrect on that last statement as it's 3rd hand information.

Yes - it works through the head unit (at least in 2 of my previous BMWs).

I do not use iDrive so both of my previous head units scrolled the channel information.

It used the existing bus and harness and the shark fin antenna.

thanks

I understand that in the 2010 Head unit, the SAT receiver is part of the head unit, and is not in the trunk.

That receiver is Sirius COMPATIBLE... not Sirius equipped. It would require the addition of a SAT receiver feeding it.

That's the E46 Navigation radio tuner. What you are looking for is the E82/E90 OEM Sirius Tuner: http://www.europeanautosource.com/pr...oducts_id=2469

The MY2010 OEM HU and the iDrive has the Sirius tuner built-in into the unit; it is no longer a separate module in the trunk.

To activate that tuner the dealer needs to order a set of files called FSC codes and load them into your car. I don't think that BMW has issued a step by step process to perform this activation yet (if they will allow this activation at dealers at all), or if they did I think that most dealers do not know how to do perform this activation yet, as they are having issues with ordering the FSC codes of the new iDrive map updates activation as well.

Just call you dealer SA and ask about Sirius activation for MY2010.

Look in your trunk for the prewiring:
