SOS/BMW Assist Fault

Anyone else with the premium package gotten the SOS fault/error message? Shows the SOS symbol with a slash through it, and causes BT to not work, and audible pops/static through the speakers.

I let it sit for an hour or two and it was still there. Taking the car in for this tomorrow, just wondering if anyone has seen this. TCU issue I guess?

i haven't heard of it...hope it wasn't when you were trying to use the system

Thankfully no! Still had the fault this morning...taking it in at 1PM today to diagnose.

I get that every once in a while on my 328i coupe.

It will last usually a few hours. It goes away for months and will pop back.

You cant use bluetooth when it happens.

I never got it addressed because it only happened a few times over 3 years.

Interesting. Luckily (?) the problem is still there so hopefully they can diagnose and fix it once and for all.

Took the car in and they said they think they'll need a few days to diagnose what is wrong with it...ugh. 328xi loaner is nice, but damn, it makes me miss the power of the 35.

Just got an update from the dealer...

They tried a battery reset, with no luck. Tried some troubleshooting in the TCU, no luck. They are waiting on additional suggestions from BMW on what else it could be. Said I am going to be looking at Tuesday or later to get the damn thing back!

I've gotten it, but that was only when I was screwing around with the bluetooth/assist retrofit and once the issue is fixed it goes away right away- so there is probably either a connection problem or something wrong with the TCU.

Update: TCU is backordered and won't be here until next week. This is absolutely ridiculous.

As of 11/15, I will have had the car for 90 days, and 16 of those days will have been in a shop...all for radio/TCU issues. Going to be a sad day if/when the HPFP hits me.

look at it this way- if Ohio's lemon law is like CA, you're more than halfway to a new car

They are the same...but I would hate to lemon a car for freaking radio issues.

My '08 328xi has the same problem. It's happened only twice in the last 2 years but what a pain. I'll be very interested to know what the dealer finds out for you because they could not find a fix for me.

As far as I understand it, they are planning on replacing the TCU. And since it is backordered, the repair is taking ~2 weeks. I will update with more details when I get the car back next week.

I can agree with that and that's how I would have felt before being on the boards, but with all the crap BMW gives many owners on warranties and the horror stories I've heard about voided warranties because something that is unrelated was modified has basically changed my view such that I feel like they deserve it, not to mention the shit they tried to give me about window tint making broken regulators not covered by cpo, and how that dealer sold me a "never repainted" car that had in fact been totally repainted on the passenger side. I know those last two a dealer issues but the brand takes the blame as far as I'm concerned

edit- oh and no my current one is not modified with aftermarket parts and no the warranty has not been voided

Finally, finally picked up my car today. TCU was replaced, and all appears well now. Said in the papers they had to submit a PUMA case and all that crap to get the replacement part approved.

had my new 135 for a little over 10 hours and I got the SOS warning light. its a 2011. I have an appointment on thursday. I had this exact issue on my 328xi in 08. it was a TCU replacement too.
