Yeah this is pretty BS...used a GPS, found out my speedometer is off by 3mph or (~5km/hr) faster.

As for if I can feel the difference between 84mph and 87 mph? Of course I can I always drive 14 km/hr (or ~9mph) above the speed limit so I don't get demerit points even if I get a ticket. You know something's wrong when you're driving "87mph" in a BMW and you have mini-vans tailing your ass vs. driving an Odyssey and no one tailing you.

Nothing you can do about it other than changing tire sizes though.

I have the 5% high reading speedometer as well.

Also interesting is that the odometer error is quite different.

In 13 years of BMW ownership I've yet to have a moving violation and I wouldn't be surprised if this built in error has saved me a solid chunk of change over the years.

I checked mine against a GPS on a trip to FL and a couple of other times and found that the OD seemed to be right on. Are you seeing something different on yours, or just saying that it's different from the speedometer?

It's not so much as the ticket...it's the insurance spike that happens after you get a ticket =(
