And low and behold, the radar comes on once the sunroof gets about halfway closed! Haha I thought maybe I just had a bad connection and it was lucky, so I tested it. It works when the sunroof is fully closed, halfway closed, or tilted but not when its fully open. Weird.....

I'm gonna roll with it as is for now because its my understanding that I cant reuse that connector and would have to get a new one?
I had this exact same issue and was using the same ground screw that you used. I switched to the correct ground bolt on the DIY and bingo the detector worked correctly.

Well I actually had already tried switching the grounds. I've got it on the black torx screw (seen in my second picture just below where I had it in that image).

Like I said though it doesn't bother me how it is now. Its way too hot to have it fully open with the Oklahoma sun beating down right now. And if I want to open the sunroof, I'll just have no radar, no biggie. Or eventually get a multimeter and find a good wire.

I had to put it on the Hex bolt to the left of where you have it wired in the pic.

^^This is a very bad spot to mount it. You do realize IF your side curtain airbag were ever to deploy/inflated that would make for a nice projectile to your face/eyes.

Do you mean the airbag coming out of the A-pillar? I dont have anything running in the pillar, and doesn't the side airbag come out of the side of the seat?

Never really understood what happens with the A-pillar airbag so this is a legitimate question, not trying to "get away with it". If it indeed is in a bad spot, I will definitely look into moving it. Although that thing is so light, idk if it is even a concern in the grand scheme of things if I got into a situation like that.

I was able to use a regular wrench and was lucky that it wasn't real tight. Probably a ratcheting wrench with the slight bend would work also.

We have those too. But in the A-pillar to C-pillar is a curtain air bag. That is where you elected to mount your device. Not a good location.

Here is a M3, but our cars have the same SRS system. BMW's have SIX air bags(SRS), steering wheel, passenger dash, each front seat has one and the side curtain bags. Plus we have those pyrotechnic(explosive) seat belts that retract belt "slack" just before a crash.

a wrecked 135i with the curtain air bag deployed...

Well from the first pic, the spot where I have it mounted is still intact... But I could see how it would be a problem with them being inflated. hmm...

Because I didn't have a connector for that... I bought the Smartcord so I can have the mute button and mount it somewhere and the connection for it taps into a wire.
