Oil temperature symbol but with squiggy lines underneath it?

Does anyone know what this symbol means? I had that flashing up on my car on Tuesday and I don't have my manual anywhere near me. Am I low on oil? Or coolant? Or is it windscreen wiper fluid? Appreciate your help!

from my manual:

oil can with squiggy lines:
Cause: Engine oil level too low

Special actions to be taken: add engine oil immediately; refer to page 117 for more information.

wait, was it a oil can in the symbol or a thermometer? cause if it was a thermometer with squiggy lines and:

lights up in red: engine overheating
actions: carefully bring the car to a stop, switch off the engine and allow it to cool down. do not open the hood, otherwise there would be a risk of injury by scalding. contact your bmw dealer.

lights up in yellow: engine too hot
actions: continue driving at more moderate speed so that the engine can cool down. have the engine checked without delay if the situation reoccurs.

Do you check your oil? Click the button on the turn sugnal stalk until you see 'oil' , then press the tip in. You have to have the engine at normal temp to do this.
