After Market Air Filter

Anyone tried an aftermarket drop in air filter in the standard air box - K&N, etc?

If so, have you noticed any difference? And what are the differences?

Yes, I have K&N in my airbox, main difference is sound(better of coz)...power I dont really think so (but works nice with my cp-e pipes)...hmmm also makes a little sucking air sound (very little, you will need to put ur window down and say in a quite indoor carpark, cant hear it while the car is moving)

Ditto K&N.

More for economic reasons (i drive in dusty areas - feeling the serenty at Bonnie Doon) and it is easy to access and clean. No real power change that i noticed, but slightly more intake melody!

Give Rocket Industries a call. They are the Australian distributors.

Bringing this thread back from the dead. Any others running aftermarket drop-in filters?

I don't know if I should go drop-in or get an aftermarket intake?

I'm running BMS dual cone SRIs, and they sound bloody AMAZING. The wooshing sound when you're on boost can be heard in the cabin even with windows up. It also gives a nice 'blowoff' sound when you lift off. Not only that, the volume of the sound across the whole rev range is louder and more sonorous.

Relatively cheap (got it shipped $180 from **********s) and easy DIY. However, performance on hot days is questionable and pod filters are illegal under NSW law. Apparently they can "spontaneously catch fire". Chyeh.

You'll also have to swap them out everytime you head in for service.

Thanks for your feedback Jeef Beef. I've been looking into the BMS dual cone setup as everyone says it sounds great and it's the cheapest solution. Only a few $ more than a drop-in filter.

Do you know if pod filters are illegal in QLD? I have never heard this before. I'm more concerned for insurance purposes if I ever need to make a claim.

On a side note... the sound seems to be louder on a standard car (boost wise) than if you are running a tune. Weird?

NOPE!

And I had 2 x K&N cones already from previous cars... Made my own 3" to 2.25" adapters, fitted them.

it was sucking in that much hot air it was s**t.

Took it off.. running stock box

back then, was running AA... (same stretch of road), 2nd gear acceleration (WOT) from 40km/h - lots of wheelspin, where as with cones, no wheelspin... it's not a scientific result, but there is some merit in it.

Yeah, I think the stock system with it's cold air intake is much better - even if it doesn't sound that way... I'm happier running a stock filter than an aftermarket anyway. Gains are questionable and there's always the warranty issue.
