I think i'm gonna be as giddy as this guy when I do ED in 4 mo. Although the cruisin at 80mph and can't even feel it comment, my damned 17yr old E30 is the same way and its 1/3 the hp! newb

Did he seem to be hanging out in the left a lane a bit too long at some points? Maybe it was just me :iono:

I think under WOT the AC compressor turns off.
The girl's first comment about the car not being stick is probably my favorite. She seemed disappointed in him. jbenington86... I know the autobahn has speed limits, but how fast is the posted limit. Also are there stretches on the autobahn that do not have a speed limit.

Depending on what state you're in, the Autobahn speed limit is usually 120 or 130 kph (not counting noise reduction areas, construction zones, through cities, etc where the limit drops) however there are indeed derestricted stretches;
where there is no speed limit, however German law states that you must keep weather/road/traffic conditions in mind at all times and modify your speed accordingly. Also, if you're involved in an accident at any speed over 130kph (the national "recommended" speed limit), you'll more than likely be assesed a fine regardless of whose fault it is :iono:

Polizei - "Das ist deee licenzee from tze Argentinien... hmmm..." Polizei - "Hanz, komment here und chek ze dokument!" Me - "Everything ok??? Right herr komandant?" Polizei - "Was ist die speed limit in Argentinien?" Me - "Errr... speed limit? Kleine speed limit" Polizei - "Huh" (while he turns around to talk to Hanz) "No speed limit???" Me - "Argentina... Fangio, Maradona, sound familiar?" Polizei gives me a blank stare. At this point it's probably been a good 15 minutes of conversation (more like blind leading blind as their english was awful and I wasn't feeling all that willing to talk almost anything but spanish) Polizei - "Thank you Mr. G****, you can go... It drive zee slow now, ok?" ME - "Danke!" Never had another encounter with "ze germans" after this one, but I think they take their job quite seriously. |

After a period of time (not sure how long) you'll become "persona non grata" and they submit the bill to a national collections agency who are perfectly happy to sell the debt collection to a US based debt collection firm. Often, if you're a non-resident the Polezi will escort you to an ATM and you will be required to pay the bill in full, in cash (and receive a receipt, of course).

The guy sounds like a n00b. OMG I'M GOING SO FAST! And I think he should've spent a little less time in the left lane too! I'm surprised he didn't get ran over!

He was probably from the West coast. Over here we're pretty much taught that the right lane is the "slow lane" and only for old ladies and semi-trucks. The left lane is for normal traffic going the usual 10 or so miles over the speed limit. So driving in the left lane, even when no one is in the right lane, is very, very common. (if it's a multi-lane freeway then the lanes get "faster" the further left you move)
When I was in Texas a couple years back I saw that they have signs posted stating specifically that the left lane was for passing only and that you could be fined for simply driving in it. I thought that was really odd as I'm from the west coast. Dan |

I wish it was this way everywhere. Thats a big part of the problem with driving and drivers in the states. Radically different styles from region to region as well as differing rules. Here in Germany I've noticed pretty much everybody tends to drive the same way, but then again, Germany is only about the size of Montana.

The united states has roughly the same land mass as all of Europe. (including Russia) Just think about how many different rules and driving styles make up all of Europe. At least we don't have a couple of states who drive on the opposite side of the road.

We have those "Left lane only for passing" signs here also, yet people still feel content to stay in the left lane and expect you to pass them on the right. |
