Any OFHG better than any other?
Any reason to cough up $30 each for the OE OFHG from BMW?
Or, other way around, any reason not to just get the $10 generics? I'm fine either way, but have no problem saving $40 if there's no real difference.

I'm all for saving a buck, but I wouldn't risk it with something as prone to issues as this personally, I like the peace of mind. I'm not a OE or die whore, but with gaskets I always go OE.
I used OE for my OFHG and the oil cooler gasket.

Go for OE it's not a job you want to do twice

had to giggle at the "not do it twice" bit... I fully anticipate having to do this again in 2-3 years(ish) anyway, regardless of gasket source...
Gonna pull the trigger on some OE's later today unless anybody has a compelling argument not to- the difference in cost just isn't that much and I'd kick myself if I'm doing this again next summer due to cheap parts

EDIT: One more thing, make sure you clean the ever loving hell out of the surfaces prior to installing the gaskets!!

Tough questions to answer, some never have encountered it(myself included) and others stated it has been around for some time on earlier BMWs.

My 2011 135i had it at 50k miles, my 2013 135i had it at 66k miles though was very light on the 2013 car.

Yeah they are guaranteed to leak on an M54 by 100K and sometimes much earlier. I replaced the one on my 330. I was just trying to get a figure on if the rate is improved or not from my E46. Guess not.

That being said, use the OE gasket for OFHG/OFCG/VCG. Theyre not jobs you want to do twice. OFHG/OFCG took me 6 hours for ~$50 in parts.

There's a thread on it somewhere on these forums. Short and dirty that I recall unless I'm remembering incorrectly is that overtorquing the cap puts stress on the joint between the filter housing and the block. 3 low torque bolts and a gasket keeping the seal. That considered I can see how that could twist the filter housing a smidge and cause an already worn gasket to give up a little seal.

On my 2012 135i I had to have mine replaced at 42k miles.
Its like a $1k job so it seems to me its not worth skimping on a cheapo gasket if you're doing it yourself.
