i love my 135i. Modding it has been very enjoyable for not only the performance gains and the process but also just getting to participate in this forum and learning.

I still want a porsche and will be getting one, but i won't be taking away any love from my 135I or BMW.

I put 1k miles on a 997 porsche turbo over 3 days and haven't driven a car that gave me that same experience since. I need to own one sometime in my life... but until then, the 135i is where it is at and when I do get a porsche Turbo, there will likely be a BMW sitting next to it.

+1 on the reliability. I can't say that I know how this car is supposed to run because it's always in the shop for something. It has yet to pass a smog test on two tries. First it was the HPFP, and five of six injectors needed replacing, plus a re-map of the computer. Then a bad coil pack, and replace all the plugs, and order a new shifter because the sport mode failed. And, on bumpy roads my coupe squeaks like an airport shuttle bus. I will not keep this car past the warranty period. No way.

After hammering my car in the last month (length of ownership) along various B roads and mountain passes that are pretty brutal on the suspension (extremely uneven road surfaces in some instances and at high speed), I've certainly loosened things up a little with some minor rattles from the B pillars and certainly one that seems to come from underneath the gear lever housing (tapping sound). But my previous VW Golf GTI was worse - far worse. At present, all are minor and impressively nothing from the sunroof when @ tilt. Joy of a performance exhaust is it drowns them out and therefore yet another reason to advise others on this purchase.

I've probably had the same happen to me. I purchased it with a software chip, dyno'ed at 480nm / 242kw but was certainly flashed by BMW when running ECU updates. I certainly wish the car would pull harder from standstill, I don't come anywhere near to the shove I'd like - all seems quite mild (and doesn't feel all *that* different to my old VW Golf GTI). Once she's at speed then all is well and I'm satisfied. Maybe due to the same issue you're referring to. I never did drive the car stock before ECU updates, so have no benchmark to compare with.

Not exactly out of love, but I do feel there are some NVH issues in the rear suspension or that part of the car.

I have to say yes slowly but surely! The cause to many problems. They have all been covered under warranty though! Like many on this board now it's all the rattles and other assorted noises that I here! Car was just in the shop DVD reader for nav has to be replaced and bottom seat leather is tearing on side. My dealer and SA are good no issues with them, but getting wore down by all the issues plus they're an hour away! I have about 35 thousand miles on it now and about 1 year left on warranty. The million dollar question is what will it cost me once out of warranty and will it just fall apart? This is my third BMW (the worse one yet) and I love the brand, but don't know if I will buy another one! I'm not one to give it a pass because of the so called advanced technology or it German excuse nope. That does not fly because my wife Mercedes has been rock solid only been in the shop one time for unscheduled maintenance. I do love the way it runs though it still catches me by surprise sometimes!

Coming up to 3 years. Either baby gets replaced with a new 1M (unlikely at this point) or she get's several grand worth of upgrades. Will probably know this month. There's nothing I'd rather have at this point unless I was going to spend over $60k, which I'm not.

Its a little 'twitchy' at over 120mph but no rattles or creaks. Wind noise with the sunroof open is horrendous at high speeds, apart from that its great.

lol what do you expect bro? Grab a regular hardtop car, cut a hole on the roof and take it to high speeds see how it feels...better yet, take a convertible to high speeds.

You guys might enjoy watching my old Autobahn videos. They were taken back when my car was totally stock and I could "only" do 240 kph (GPS) (shows 255kph on the speedo)!

FYI ... I sold my '08 last June went through 2 other cars and am on the verge of buying another '09 135i. I have had over 25 cars in the past 25 years of driving and I EAGERLY am awaiting of the arrival of my 135i. It was by far the best all around car I have ever had.

I test drove three cars before ordering my 135i coupe: a 128i coupe (no M Sport), a 135i M Sport coupe, and a 135i M Sport convertible.

I wasn't really interested in a convertible, but it was the only 1er available to test drive at the time so I took it for a spin. I couldn't believe how harsh the ride was. Going over bumps almost rattled my teeth. There was no way I could deal with that on a daily basis, especially in this town (Honolulu) where roads suck, and I figured the car would shake itself apart after awhile. I was hugely disappointed because I feared the tuned suspension and run flat tires were in large part responsible and that a lot of that harsh ride quality would translate to the coupe as well. Then, a week later, I test drove the 135i coupe.

My fears proved unfounded. The ride was firm but without any of the harshness I experienced in the convertible. Going over the same bumps was fine. They felt like two completely different cars. My sales guy said the harsher ride in the convertible was due to its heavier chassis, and I was expecting some difference in ride quality because of that, but the difference was so great I thought it had to be more than just additional weight. Whatever the differences in the two chassis, the ride quality in the convert was flat out unacceptable. If your car is anything like that I'm not surprised at the squeaks and rattles that have developed.

The 128i (non M Sport) without the tuned suspension and run flats was cushy by comparison but didn't have the handling prowess and power of the 135i coupe so my decision was easy. I went with the 135i coupe.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience and hope things work out. It could be you got an exceptionally harsh one. These days same model cars are supposed to all come out the same, but that has not been my experience. Our Audi A3 gets crappy mileage and the DSG transmission is herky jerky compared to others, but that's another story.

Technically he's correct, but missed a very important part of it. Although the 135i convertible is a VERY rigid car, there's no doubt that there is a certain amount of cowl flex in it when pushed. Cowl flex at the handling limits also impacts low-speed in that often the twisting of the chassis can set up pretty awful harmonics that actually render all that suspension engineering almost completely irrelevant. An extreme example of this is the Volkswagen Eos, which rides horribly when the roof is open, and a little better (but not much) when the roof is closed because it has a metal roof that adds to the rigidity. The 1'er is SOL there because the fabric top does nothing to quell the flex, and so nothing to improve the ride.

I too drove a 135i 'vert and was less than impressed. I mostly got the coupe as well because of that.
