Group Buy: Powder coated 135i Brembo calipers
Hi all,
I've been a Nissan guy for a long time before coming over to BMW. I had a G35 with Brembo's, and a G37 with the Akebono brakes. On both forums folks put together group buys with www.thepowdercoater.com and with success guys were changing their caliper color all over the place. I reached out to Mike and he is open to have a group buy with NO minimum however the more the better. Here's what he said: Quote:
I will run this thread until next Friday 10/21/2011 or until we get at least 10. At that time I will coordinate with Mike to get the payment information from those that are in on the buy. To be clear I'm not going to be in the middle of the transactions, I'm just getting the interest up there and helping everyone get a good deal with a respected shop. Any questions post them up. Also the question of whether the calipers are disassembled before coating came up, Mike's answer: Quote:

I'm interested but I'll probably wait and see how many people commit. Thanks for getting this going hopefully we can get a good discount.

I would think this would be a big hit given the amount of people always asking about it. Maybe this section isn't getting as many hits as others...

Just to be clear is this for after market calipers or can we use the OEM 135i ones?

So does this mean no white calipers or just no white writing on different color caliper?
+1 I like my factory calipers, just wish they were white.

Mike will disassemble the calipers, clean the seals and dustboots, and reinstall after coating. He can install a rebuild kit also if provided by the buyer.
Conformed that no white logo on rich colors like red or orange, but white calipers are fine.

I'm in on this, but will need a bit of time to source the calipers from someone on this site whose selling them. Once you get everything in stone, let me know and I'll buy a set from someone on this site to send to your guy. I'm definitely in at this price, especially as he's taking them apart and putting them back together for us. Can he do bright yellow calipers with a black Brembo logo? If so, that's what I'm down for.
Thanks for doing this for us! |

So it looks like the only person that wants in right away is me thanks all for the interest and I will follow up in about a month to see if everyone is in. That's probably better for me anyway, so I can get a couple more weeks in before sitting her in the garage for winter.

Assuming 2-3 days to ship up and 2-3 days to ship back, what does the downtime look like?

I'm pretty sure Mike said 2 days of work time. So about a week of downtime if we time it right.
For me it doesn't matter I have plenty of cars to drive, but I know not everyone has that luxury.

you'll find most guys won't be willing to go without brakes for a week to do this. I'd guess 80% of people on here use their 1er as a daily driver. Just my $.02 from having tried to sell BMW Perf Calipers and needing a stock set in return.

I would be down for this but the time line is way off for me. I need the time frame to be bumped back about a month or now really. I am in the Air Force and bound for the UK in January so I will be shipping my car off in December.
