Uh oh...Fuel pump problem?
My 1M has failed to start on the first press of the starter button three days in a row. This is exactly what my '07 335i coupe started doing before the fuel pump failed. That car went through three of them in 32k miles, and I suspect was soon to fail again when I sold it. BMW bumped the warranty on the pumps to 100k, little consolation when you're stuck on the side of the road.
Has anyone here had a fuel pump failure on thei 1M? |

2007's got 120k and 10 years I believe. I own one and would hate to have another car with the issue.
There is a new version of the fuel pump and this car should have it. I don't read a lot about my old 335 anymore, so I have not red about the new pump reliability...

Not to rub it in, but this is why you don't buy a boosted BMW. It really sucks that you guys have to go through this especially with different models. BMW needs to get off their ass's and get this problem fixed. I can't imagine this being an issue with all the turbo'd models they'll have coming out next year

Each replacement in my 335i was the "new" one, with different part numbers, but they all failed. If these things have fuel pump issues I'm getting rid of it and getting an M3 or 911.

Given the limited production and by statistics of failure rate there shouldn't be more than a handful of 1M with this problem. Now one has surfaced it means less chance for rest of 1M owner to suffer from this issue

Strange, given that the 1M comes with the latest iteration of the pump, which has been used in most replacements and virtually eliminated most HPFP issues. Many times my car starts so fast that the engine doesn't even turn over a full revolution before the car turns on.
Go get it checked out and keep us posted. |

This issue has more to do with just "Part Numbers" or "Turbo Models.." My wife took delivery of the first E89 3.5i Z4 (US Spec) in Stuttgart, back in May of 2009. This car still has the first edition of the HPFP!! She babies this car and it ONLY gets Esso 93/98 or Shell V100. To date we have had absolutely ZERO issues with the HPFP. As result, I think this issue has much more to do with fuel type and quality as compared to just faulty parts. I am amazed to see people spend $50K+ on a vehicle, then shop around and put the lowest price (or cheapest) gas in it. The other cited possibility is the high sulfur content in US fuel. In the end you get what you pay for.. (Crap in, crap out..) My experience .. and my .02 The N54 is a great motor and has TONs of unrealized performance. |

Now that you mention it, is there BP in SoCal? I only use Shell.
I'm getting ready to unload my E92 for this. Should I reconsider?

The BP gas in Florida and in Alabama has 10% Ethanol added...actully all gas stations i think in Florida and Alabama have 10% Ethanol added. All my cars run like crap when on that shit. Not sure if it effects the HPFP though. I wish they would get rid of Ethanol or only add it to the lower grade stuff...make it optional. Its not any good for the enviroment like the Politicians want you to believe.

I have stock interest in Shell! I was told it is one of the recommended gas brands.
