EBC Red Stuff vs. Cool Carbons S/T?

I'm looking at swapping brake pads to either the EBC Red Stuff or Cool Carbon S/T. Anyone have opinions on one vs. the other?

Daily Driver, looking for less dust but also better performance. Might start doing some track days sometime in the next year or so. I have quite a bit of track experience on motorcycles but would be just starting out in a car.

I'm due for pads in a few thousand miles so planning to swap F & R out + go to RBF600 or similar brake fluid.

Any recommendations welcome.

Never tried cool carbon but I have used EBC Red for street and they work well. I use Yellow for track(I'm a novice) and they work well enough for me as well. The Yellow are noisy on the street not as bad as more dedicated pads. The reds so far have been quiet have a less dust than stock but work just as well. I have their rotors as well but I don't recommend them.

+1 for reds...way less dust than stock and great feel on the commute/canyons. I am pretty light on my brakes but for commuting/occasional autox im happy with them

I had Cool Carbons and then I switched to EBC Reds, I liked the cool carbons better. I've gotten a lot of brake fade with the reds, and I don't feel like the bite was as good as the cool carbons. I did one track day at big willow with the red stuff pads and I wasn't satisfied. Only reason that I still have them on is that I don't know what to go with next.

Had the reds for the last 30k. They're ok day to day, but any hard use and they feel like blocks of wood. Easy to fade. I'll run them to the plates...but as posted above...not sure what to use next.

HPSs stink, but could they be a legitimate compromise? Just not a ton out there at reasonable prices for these calipers.

Planning on replacing the brakes on my wife's 335 with the new Hawk 5.0 pads. Supposedly better stopping than HPS but same levels of dust and noise. Saw some pretty good reviews so want to try them out.

Sounds like the cool carbons may be worth a shot.

I've got cool carbons. MUCH lest dust compared to oem, and the pad feel is pretty good even after a solid hour of driving hard. I think my brake pedal engagement point got lower with the cool carbons, however I may just have a bubble in the system. Another plus is that they have a cutout for the brake wear sensor and they come with backing plates.

I'll probably go with cool carbon again unless I find another alternative.

Ok so anyone have rotor recommendations?

Anyone have experience with StopTech or ECS branded slotted rotors?

Right now I only need the rears so Zimmerman (oem replacement/not slotted) seem like a good option to pair w/ some new CoolCarbon brakes F & R

Funny enough, am doing the rears right now also. I went with Stoptech slotted rotors, Cool Carbon S/T pads, and Techna-fit brake lines. I just need time to install it all.

I've used Pagid on my older Audi-never had a problem. Used OE BMW on the 128-all was good. Now I'm on Cool Carbons on the front-they work well too. Just try and do brakes yourself because (especially with Cool carbon) its best if you put Noise Free (Bav Auto) or Permatex Disc Brake Quiet on the back of the pad and let sit overnight before assembly. Garages can never afford the time to do this. Rear Cool Carbons going on next month.
As far as rotors, OE BMW very hard to beat. DO NOT USE "Racing" brake fluid. Its for racing only where it gets changed out after each event. Not good to keep it in your DD over months.

I'm curious as to the basis of this statement because I've been using Motul RBF600 in my car for the last 4 years without issue. I track the car and bleed in between events but also daily it. I'm not aware racing fluid is anymore hygroscopic than normal fluid or having adverse effects on braking system components.

Planning to use some disc brake quiet either have my shop put it on the day before or do it myself using some Loctite Disc Quiet Stick https://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E82-13...3.0L/ES240432/

I've never heard that racing brake fluid (like RBF600) can't be used as DD. I change mine every 2 years and its pretty dry climate here in NV. I used it for my motorcycle trackbike but I did change it annually before the start of the season. How about using Motul 5.1 instead of Dot4?

I think he's saying it needs to be changed more often so perhaps annually in a DD instead of every 2 years. Dunno.
