Berk axelback

Hey guys, I've got an n55 with completely stock exhaust setup, except I've got a downpipe. I'm thinking about swapping in the Berk Axelback for weight and sound, but I really don't want anymore volume (it's pretty loud cold starting in the neighborhood already).

For those with experience here, is the axelback going to make it louder?

Just the axleback street system will increase the volume. I would recommend to change out the midpipes if anything. If you can do both, the midpipes and the street muffler will make a nice combo. Getting the midpipes along with the muffler will make drone better, thus lowering the volume. Hope this helps

he has the N55 so changing the midpipes is pointless imo because it already has the seconday cats removed.

I personally don't mind the cold start up. Only lasts about a minute then it is fine. Just start it up in your garage with it closed or something and it won't wake your entire neighborhood.

I live in a condo complex and it makes some car alarms go off in the complex but who cares since it is underground.

Hey...do you need some 261 wheels just kidding...I actual have the Berk street performance axle back (ceramic coated). It is not louder than stock but has a definite deeper tone. I still have stock down pipes (and mid pipe) but have AR's DP arriving soon. I will let you know if the sound increases with the DP's if you like.

I have an N55 with stock dp's with the Berk Full Race exhaust on it and it actually is not too loud. I was expecting way louder.

Cold start is pretty intense but once it warms up the sound is amazing.

$100 each! Yeah that'd be great let me know once you get your DPs on. Enjoy that project by the way, I've never sworn so much in my life.

The berk midpipes don't bend as sharply (though they still have a pretty sharp bend in them), theoretically making them less restrictive. Also, there are 2 small resonators in each pipe, versus the one large resonator where the stock pipes meet. This makes the air going through less turbulent and be less restrictive overall. The exhaust would probably sound better because of less turbulence as well.

The full race system with a downpipe is obnoxiously loud. If you call Berk, they will actually recommend the street system for a daily driver....

But w/o a DP, its pretty tame..

It almost makes driving it traffic fun.

I agree, it's VERY loud. I've driven a 135i with downpipes and the race exhaust, and I'm surprised I didn't get pulled over

Hey Chris,

I've got this exact setup - street performance axelback + 4" downpipe all from Berk's. The sound - awesome and i'm loving it. I appreciate the recommendation from the guys at Berk for this as opposed to the race performance set up.

However i'm experiencing irregular RPM hunting at idle or at low speeds. RPM hunting can go as high as 1500.

Any idea what's happening and what can i do to resolve this?

Ok...my AR DPs are mounted (stock midpipe & Berk street Perf axleback) and the dB's are definitely higher and the tone is a lot deeper. I was satisfied with the sound prior to the addition of the AR DPs but I kind of like it more now I think your sound (dBs) is fairly loud due to the DPs...if you change to the Berk Street Performance axle back the tone will definitely change to the Berk sound without an enormous increase in dBs. I would say it is worth the change but thats my opinion.
