Going in for service before warranty expires. Any advice?
Can I ask them to look at any items prone to failure? Like the charge pipe?
20k miles on the car. No flags on the service menu for brakes or fluids. Thanks gents! |

I just noticed that my 3rd brake light (the one on the trunk) has some small stress cracks in it. My warranty expires on the 20th. Gotta get in soon.

Just took mine in with two days left. Told them my battery light comes on - which it would if parked w ignition off but radio on.
Replaced battery, would have been a $700 bill. |

Mine was *close enough* to 30k miles they included spark plugs along with motor, gearbox, and differential fluid.
I payed for a coolant flush too while it was in the shop. Don't forget your free yearly windshield wipers either, haha

By the book they'll only change if pads and/or rotors are below minimum spec. Some people have been successful getting them changed because of "warping" etc. My rotors have noticeable lips and cracking much worse than the average heat-cracking. Nonetheless I measured them at ~ 1mm above minimum spec, which is actually a ton of life still. Dealer declined to replace and regurgitated a SIB saying that cracking was normal and did not affect function. : |

Had my brakes changed at dealer w 19k miles. 1st dealer declined, 2nd agreed...so don't give up. They also replaced a seal where the drive shaft mates to the differential, maybe have them look at that.
My battery shit the bed too, took down the trickle charger as well...put the car in service, after calling rd side, and battery checked out fine, so they just charged it up, was hoping for a new battery seeing my warranty is up end of next month.

Thanks guys. I'm headed back in three weeks to get a new battery installed.
Fun story: the SA told me they had almost put the wrong battery in my car. She specifically said, "I'm not sure if you know this, but they didn't make very many of your model. The tech says its actually pretty rare. We had to special order a battery." I said, "that's right, BMW only brought in about 740 to the US." She replied, "No, the tech said its more like 300." Getting a new battery and an oil change. Also might ask them to adjust the parking brake. |

Basically told them that the wheel is shaking out of my hand when I step on the brakes. My SA and tech are very cool cats. They also did a brake flush even though it had been done 3K mi or 1.5 yrs ago.

Just came out of the shop (warranty exp end of month).
Had e-box fan, dmtl pump and gas cap replaced, new wipers... Refused to replace pads, as they measure 8mm and 5.5mm (min 3mm) and denied fluid changes as last time I did it was in Feb... no biggie, will do myself (but came as a surprise to me, feel like a loss of 1 year of free maintenance... ) Checked turbos, etc. all good. Time to shop for summer new tires next season... but that's the good news, wanted to get new set of wider PSS for a while... |

Sadly my warranty expires in a week...today they did the following:
Inspection Engine oil change Brake fluid change Cabin air filter change Diff fluid Coolant change (I paid for this) Fixed a noise in rear diff by replacing the diff...yeap at $3300 they replaced the diff, told me they weren't allowed to break it open, that it was going back to Germany for BMW to inspect. And last but also important, a hand wash!

Hey rikx could you describe the noise in your rear diff and in which conditions you could hear it? Did it sound like a "rubbing" coming from the rear? I may have the same issue, I've found an oil leak on the diff case and bringing the car for service next week...(luckily still within warranty) |

Yeah, sorry for the late response..
During hard left turns, like U turns, there was a slight rubbing sound. I heard it 6 months ago and BMW said it was an exhaust hanger as I have an aftermarket exhaust. Seems it was rubbing or scrapping. But that didn't seem right to me so I kept monitoring it and ever once in a while would hear it again. When I remembered my warranty is expiring soon, I decided to take it in one last time. I had tech ride with me and I was able to replicate noise by doing multiple left U-turns. Hope that helps.

thanks a lot, that's pretty much what's happening to mine. I'm gonna bring it in for service this week and I'll mention this as well. Thanks again! I'll update once I've got news.
