BTW - sleeps - We have similar car histories going from MCS to 135is. Funny enough, I think a lot of people make that eventual step/jump. Yours looks great! I bludgeoned mine with track-day mods, making it undriveable day to day, thus it's gone.

More evidence that the ppk is a true add-on and not purpose engineered. A few zip ties here and there under the hood among other things.

Installed the Lux 5k's. PPK adds a bunch of extra wires and plumbing that makes that job an even bigger PITA. Pictures eventually (when it's clean, and I remember)

I also lightly curbed a 313 before the winter change. Currently in the process of repairing. Wet sanded most of the damage out. Going to airbrush on some automotive clear to bring it back up to mostly new condition.

new tires. I decided to go with 225/40 and 255/35. And I am glad I did. On the freeway sweepers ~90+ mph, the car felt more planted. It reminded me of my Cayman S and its 235/40 and 265/40/18's. BMW should have made these tires standard. I had to pay ~$1000 more. The tires are definitely worth changing. The run flats totally suck. Moreover, I only buy Michelin, Pirelli, or Continental tires for the street. I don't track.

Mb135is you are having tranny and diff fluid changed as well after break in? I was only going to do oil. I'm guessing you're doing the other two for possible tiny metal bits from the parts wearing in getting used to each other?

Michelin PSS. The ride is also less bumpy. In addition, I feel no difference in the understeer.

PS. I have also always experimented with tire pressures. I like 36 psi on all 4 tires, not the 39-rear recommended. I like the feel of the road better. And I never have had uneven wear. I used all-36 on both my E36 and E46 M3s, as well.

NavyChop's 135is

Regarding my order:

2013 135is Convertible
6SPD Manual
Carbon Black Paint; Black Boston Interior; Back Soft Top
Premium Package
Heated Front Seats
Auto Hi-Beams

See my other posts on the Technology Package; might start one on that once I'm cleared to start my own threads.

Elected not to go with the blue stiching on the black leaether; neat and distinctive for sure, but not a huge fan of the blue-color-framed floormats that come with it (yes, those can be swapped out easily enough) and I didn't want to commit to the blue striping for ten years, which is how long I generally hold a vehicle. I owe a thank you to another member for posting some great photos of his or her 135is that helped me make that decision.

So the 135is material mentions colored interior gauges...I've yet to discern or see how the gauges differ from the standard 135i...anyone have pictoral evidence?

No difference on the gauges. Might have refered to 'badges'.

Blue stitching is cute but not as good as it should have been. If they did the door cards it would have been much different. AS-IS they're barely noticed. Would probably go black if I had to choose over. Definitely not on a non-blue car.

Auto high beams have saved me several times already.

Thanks for the note on the gauges, I was trying to figure out what I was not seeing in posted photos.

Auto high beams were a last minute add, I drive on country roads and figured they might come in handy over the next 10 years...or more that I hope to own this car for.

How do you rate the driving dynamics of the 135is, any turbo lag etc compared to stock N55?

Update on break in service:

Had them do the oil/filter (no indicator reset), tranny and diff. Diff. service was a little bit of a hassle because there is no drain plug on our diffs. Tech sucked everything out, but it took longer.

Now, this is most likely placebo, but the car is running smoother, and the resonance I had @ 1,800 rpm is gone. I don't understand why as I had thought it was from the exhaust. Who knows? Asked my SA about the tips sticking out so far from that one angle - he said it's definitely annoying, but it could be for a reason - the exhausts/tips and their relationship to body pieces can cause resonance. Not sure what to make of that. I'm pretty sure I'll add the Performance rear diffuser at some point.

I'm up over 1,300 miles now, so going full bore when I can find some room!

Also, I asked them to try to remove the automatic wipers. They worked quite a while trying to figure it out, and it's impossible (according to them) on this car. Guess I'll be slopping plenty of rain-x on the windshield as my brain cannot handle the varying speeds of the auto wipers. OCD at its finest right there.

Also asked them to hunt a rattle from my rear interior. Couldn't find it. Build quality is obviously lower on this car than on my ZHP, even though their MSRP when new is exactly the same (actually, ZHP 2 grand cheaper in 05, then factor inflation and I paid a lot for what could end up being a cheaply made car!).

Now I need spring to get here so I can put some real wheels/tires on, put the windows down, and enjoy this thing!

Reply:

So not trying to be master of the obvious, but on my test drive it was raining and I accidentally turned off the auto wipers; dealer turned them back on. Just downloaded the manual and page 72 explains how the auto-wiping system can be deactivated. Again, not being sarcastic here, just trying to help, but I don't have my car yet so I can't test to be sure.

Regarding Rain-X, huge fan! I find it tiring to watch the wipers so I seldom ever use them. For me, Rain-X is a safety requirement for any vehicle in my family...night time rain fully disappears and there is no loss of visibility IMHO.

Is that just BMW playing with the ECU so that it can report vaguely respectable fuel economy ratings (ie how BMW claims the PPK2 doesn't impact fuel efficiency)?
Yes, all to do with fuel economy/emissions ratings.

All DCT are the same, DCT settings are not altered with PPK install.
