Lack of traction
Hey people
So since the procede install so far so good, been a joy and fun ride but….. Traction problems…. Previously had minimal rubber, a skinny 230 but have since put 245’s. It’s better but still from a standing start the balance of trying to manage wheel spin in some conditions, is simply not happening. Any ideas? I've heard install LSD (sounds $) or rolling guards for more rubber…… I don’t think an “R” with 4wd and launch control has the same issues, well the one at the lights the other day didn't. |

Everything can help a powerful RWD car put down the power. Rear control arms (aka 'traction arms') help considerably, toe can help, suspension softness can help, tyre temperature / compound / psi / width can help, LSD can help and road surface can help.
I would have 255's back there at minimum on some good tyres for your application to start with, then I'd do things like rear control arms and bushings. LSD for straight line traction I'd probably do last. But I suppose i'm not the expert here, maybe consult someone like Harold from HP Autowerks.

Tyres first for sure. 255 in the form of either a Michelin PSS or Hankook RS3. LSD will help an experienced driver, but else it will be easier to bog down with too much wheelspin off the line which is at odds with 'more traction'

You need tyres. Everything else is secondary. I just got a set of AD08Rs and the grip they have over my old Federal 595RSRs is mind blowing. Hankook RS3s would be a good choice too.

Is there a decent RFT that you guys would recommend? Or just steer clear maybe?

I don't think RFT's would ever come close to a decent non-RFT..
however: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/...son+Run+Flat_1 in limited sizes though http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....PRFT&tab=Sizes is the widest i can see below 275, and they're priced right up there with the 'max' or 'extreme' performance or whatever the tag is, tyres. |

I've got the same problem. FMIC + PE + PTF tune = loss of traction in almost every gear. It's fun for a few days but gets annoying pretty quickly. On the upside, a new set of Tyres is in very short order.
Pete - when you say rear control arms, do you mean fitting the M3 part? |

Currently running a pair of Dunlop SP Sport Maxx TT – 245 x 35 x 19
I heard the RFT tyres lack the grip of a standard tyre but I've never had RFT so couldn't tell you. Rear arms are an option, saw some for reasonable price. The difference I noticed from the 230 to 245 was huge so 255 and a good tyre (Michelin PSS or Hankook RS3 or the yokohama) would be the other option. The prices for the AD08Rs look steep but this problem I predict will only get worse when I pick the car up from the boys at Advan tomorrow. Froop you sound satisfied with those and have much more power coming from yours (plus the other bits and pieces) plus it looks like the favoured 1st option so I might lean that way. I got a guy doing good tyre prices so I’ll hit him up and see what he comes back with.... |

I have done quite a bit to the car and only get wheelspin in first gear if I dump the clutch from a standstill. Second hooks up great and car just goes. Other than modulating the foot, there's plenty that can be done to manage it. Just depends how much you want to spend.
